Actress Tatum O'Neal Arrested After Buying Crack Cocaine
Oscar-winning star Tatum O'Neal was arrested Sunday after trying to buy crack cocaine near her New York City apartment.
The 44-year-old actress — who chronicled her longtime battle with drugs and alcohol in her 2004 memoir A Paper Life — was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
"You know who I am, right?" she told police as she was arrested, according to the New York Post. "Can't we forget about this?"
She also said she was just "researching a part ... as a junkie," the Post reports.
At 10, O'Neal — daughter of actor Ryan O'Neal — became the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award for her role as a child con-artist in 1973's Paper Moon.
"I was thrust out three as a little kid. It was hard to cope," O'Neal told gossip columnist Liz Smith of her drug and alcohol addiction (she went to rehab in 1996). "I used to walk with my head down ... I had a lot of shame and self-hatred."
O'Neal — who most recently appeared as Denis Leary's sister on the FX series Rescue Me — told Entertainment Tonight eight months ago that Britney Spears should seek "recovery and get her disease of addiction together.
"I relate to her and feel really sad for her," she said.

I can't stand her but I do hope that she gets help. I'm glad that they didn't just let her go, maybe it will be her wake up call. I feel bad for her kids too, it can't be easy having a mother who is not well. Crack nonetheless, yikes!
