Adam Sandler Invites Teen Cancer Patient to Hang on Movie Set

Actor Adam Sandler made a Florida teen’s dreams come true when he invited the 19-year-old to visit him on his movie set.
Gaige Robbins, who is battling an “extremely aggressive” rare strand of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma called CD20, visited Sandler on his Georgia movie set Monday where the comedian is filming “The Do Over” with Paula Patton and David Spade.

Robbins' family and friends made a video asking to meet the "Happy Gilmore" actor. With the help of social media, a viral video and a legion of Support Gaige Robbins fans, the plan worked. The actor personally invited the teen and his family to the set where he introduced Robbins to his co-stars and posed for pictures.
Shane Robbins said the six-hour visit was "the best day of his son's life."

Robbins has undergone nine rounds of chemotherapy treatments and more than 30 radiation treatments since being diagnosed in 2014. The treatments have not worked.
"His cancer is nonreactive to chemo or the radiation," Shane told NBC News. "The radiation has actually caused it to spread. Doctors in Melbourne told us that they can only keep him comfortable at this point."

The family was able to make the stop in Savannah to meet Sandler thanks to a courtesy car from Coastal Hyundai in Melbourne. The dealership is footing the bill for a vehicle that can accommodate the teen's medical needs as the family heads to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Wednesday to see what trial treatments, if any, Gaige can participate in.
“He doesn't have a lot of time and we want to find him something ASAP,” Shane pleaded. "We need to talk to anyone that may have gone through this and could help.”

The "Big Daddy" actor called the family again Tuesday to check in on the teen and see how the drive to Houston was going.

"This guy has as been very, very good to Gaige and my family," Shane said. "You can't get any better then that as a person. He cares very much about [us]."
