Adding a large playground set to your yard and home insurance

Do you need to notify your homeowners if you add a $$ large child's playset/playground set to your yard in order for it to be covered should it get damaged in a storm by a tree? Or should someone get injured on it? And if so, would it make your homeowners go up?

We never added ours.

We had to use our HO from Sandy and what we got was minimal anyways, I doubt it would even make much of a difference.

See now for us, we had to use our HO for Sandy, a large tree broke 2 sections of our PVC fence. Cost to remove tree (which is covered IF it damaged your property) was about 900, and fence repair was 900ish. Then we had a food loss of around $500 and we wound up getting a good $2000 back from our insurance for all of that (after meeting deductible).

This swingset would be very $$$, cost much more than the above. I just really want to know if it needs to be added to be covered should a tree damage it in another storm. And if it needs to be added, would it make my insurance go up?

You should probably call your insurance carrier and ask them being that policies/providers may vary.

You do not have to notify them. It would be covered under other structures, subject to your deductible.

This is good to know.

Goobster, I've always wondered about this too. A neighbor's tree is behind our swingset and DH is convinced that tree will come down when we get a storm. We always watch it out the window. Anyway, our swingset was $3K which was a lot for us and I'm always afraid that tree will crush it.

As a side note, our other neighbors left the tree lady a note offering to pay for the tree to come down (they are convinced it will fall on their house too) and she didn't respondChat Icon

Thank you!Actually we hadn't notified them we put up our fence and it was covered. And luckily the tree came down before we bought a playset b/c it would have been crushed by the tree. But hoping others won't fall on it too.

just so much $$ (of course we are choosing to spend that kind of money) so I didnt want to chance it.

thanks!
