Adopted a puppy... Advice needed
Yesterday my DH and I along with my two year old adopted a rotty puppy he's adorable ... And we have 2 rescued 8 year old cats (they've been with me since 6 weeks old found them homeless under a bush so im very protective of them).... So need advice on how to get one cat to be chill with the dog .. One brothers already adjusted other is neurotic normally lol ...
Also any advice on puppy training appreciated too my husband and I have had many dogs in our 35 years of life but last time I trained a dog was 15 years ago! ... I'm a SAHM with a 2 year old and 2 cats so I'm around puppy most and left to do the majority of it

He is super cute!!! We got our puppy in August and even though I've done this before, I forgot how much work it can be. The best advice is to use the crate as much as possible. If you are not giving the dog 100% of your attention, put him in the crate. Try to get the dog to love the crate. I don't know what we did wrong, but even though we frequently used the crate, our dog still hates it. She actually doesn't mind it when we're home, but when we leave she freaks out in her crate. It makes us feel guilty when we leave and that stinks.

cute, you should always introduce animals slowly and never directly. Let the cats and dog meet each other but through a closed door. Keep each on different sides of the house if you can until they get use to the smell of each other

So cats and puppy met and could care less even my neurotic fur-baby has acclimated ... Quicker then expected
... But had to take puppy to ER vet he's got kennel cough which is expected so he's on antibiotics and puppy mucinex...but vet found two major defects a small trachea and his teeth are a major issue huge under bite which will effect him later in life ... Baby has already bonded to him so we keeping him (with these defects I can't imagine shelter rehoming I'd fear worst) but not without reservations but he's already part of the family 48 hours in

He could have bulldog blood lines with the underbite and smaller trachea??
Be careful with his breathing due to the smaller trachea--(during playtime, walks etc!)

Yeah I'm thinking bull dog he looks like pure rotty but obvi he has issues bc he was surrendered ... He's ours for life and oodles if vet bills buy I can't detach Him from my ds...!(and me LOL )

I have a bulldog, her underbite has not been an issue. I would suggest getting a neater feeder though, the bite makes for a very messy eater and that is a huuuuge help. With the breathing you really just need to be careful with walks and play, don't let him get too worked up. A harness would be a good option for a leash.
He's adorable, good luck with him!

Awesome thanks so much for the info! I'll def look into both .. I'm constantly checking his collar and watch him sleep like he's a newborn hahaha ...

We usually do a combo of wet and dry food. If you do just dry, throw a little oil in, it will be good for the skin and coat. Sometimes instead of wet we give her some plain chicken or salmon skin. She loooooves the salmon. I would check with your vet first though since he's still a puppy.

When you switch him to adult dog food-I would do dry with a few scoops of wet. Buy dry food that is small bites.
What is he eating now?

Congrats on a being a new puppy mommy&daddy
- 'Blue' and other natural brands are great, but can be pricey in the long run. I now used Rachel Ray 6 for jack. Try Amazon for pricing, seems reasonable
-- From early, try a bit of extra virgin olive oil in his food. Salamon oil is good also. This helps with his coat & digestive system over the years.
-- Nupro All Natural Joint & Immunity Support Dog Supplement is good to keep in mind, maybe a bit later. It helps the joints.
All in all, i try to keep in mind to prevent illness with vitatmins etc. So far jack is 7years and runs around like a puppy... still

Thanks so much! I'll be looking into all these suggestions so far our little (ish) ball of fur is doing good since his kennel cough has ended ... You'd never know there was any issues

Also, you may want to consider insurance... yuup... they do have it. Unforseen things or surgery can add up. I use ASCPA
