Adopting a family for Christmas
DH & I want to have our entire family adopt a family for Christmas this year. Instead of us buying gifts for our family members, and them buying for us we would like have everyone buy gifts for a family in need. How do we go about finding a family? We really want to help out a good honest, hard working family who is just down on their luck. Now that we have had dd (6months) we want to start a tradition of giving back this time of year, something we can continue as she gets older. Anyone know how to go about this?

Re: Adopting a family for Christmas
I was just talking to DH about this a few days ago. I would much rather do something like this than spend on each other. We don't need or want anything. Not sure where you're located but I found Toys for Hope on line.
I think I'm going to contact them today.

Yes, the middle school where I work does this every year, it is amazing!!! You could also contact your local churches to see if they have something.

Re: Adopting a family for Christmas
If you belong to a church you can ask them. Our church has a christmas tree with tags hanging on them as ornaments. The tags is really a person who is in need. It states the gender and age of the person as well as what they truly need.
This is what we do.

either call your local church or the social worker of a local school or one in an area of great need.

Didn't Newsday or one of the local papers used to run this?
You could do a general donation or you could select a family to adopt.

I do new york cares winter wishes. It's just a gift for one child.
Last year one of our playgroups adopted a family through a womens shelter. It was a woman and a little baby.
