adopting babies who were "dropped off" as part of safe haven laws

Hi ladies. I have a question about something a friend mentioned to me. She said she heard about a program that placed babies from across the US who were abandoned within the first few days of life... whose mothers were protected under safe-haven laws. Has anyone heard of this? Ia m trying to do some research on the net but have hit some dead ends.... thanks!

The babies that are "dropped off" become part of the social service system, I am 99% sure. The safe places are usually hospitals and a social worker would be called..it is for a "no questions asked" type thing for the girls..typically they are young girls who do not want their parents to know that they had a baby. This is not a program that places a ton of children into the system though. But there are TONS of children in the system that need good home and love.
Chicago had a huge media program to promote the program a few years ago.
Your friend can call her local social services department. She needs to have a home study and be approved to adopt.

Thanks for the insight. I understand that these infants are taken into the local social services system, but my friend told me about a national registry of these babies. I wonder if this is acurate.... thanks!Chat Icon

I would be shocked if the registery is open to the public..I think that might be to judge the "sucess" of the program and for program data stats. This might give you some info..it looks like VERY few babies are actually dropped off in this manner.
Interesting article on this
