I stayed in Excellence Punta Cana about 9 yrs ago and I know a few people who stayed there since. We all loved and recommend it.

We stayed twice 4-5 years ago (wow, time flies). We loved it. Budget friendly
Aruba from what I hear has more restaurants and less all inclusives. It was a lot more money when we traveled. Excellence had some pros and cons but for the price we loved it.

Excellence. Their resorts in general are great. Secrets is nice too!
we stayed at breathless in punta cana once also when they first opened... they weren't bad, but they were working out kinks since they were so new. i have heard all the kinks are out and its much better now (not like it was horrible before!)

I could not agree more with Excellence Punta Cana. We just returned from our 6th trip there. There is also a new Excellence in the DR - Excellence El Carmen that is opening on September 1st. It is supposed to be more along the style of the Excellence properties in Mexico with a more modern feel.
There is one property in Aruba that I can think of that is adults only and all inclusive and that's the Divi. I would not recommend doing an all inclusive in Aruba because the island is very safe and you'd be missing out on some amazing restaurants.

I just read about a new Riu resort in Aruba that is all inclusive adults only. Don't know much more about it.

I think we are sticking with Punta Cana, and I was looking at dreams but really think we want adults only so looking at Excellence and secrets but leaning more toward excellence

Adult only resort in Punta Cana or Aruba
We stayed at the Bucutti & Tara resort in Aruba for our HM. I loved it there - the beach is amazing and I just loved the overall feel of the resort. It is adults only, but not all-inclusive. It is a small, boutique resort - very quiet, never have to get up at 6am to reserve a lounge chair etc. It is in the low rise section of Aruba, but only a short cab ride from the high rise section - which we really only went to once - had dinner,w alked around etc. We did go to lots of other areas, but didn't feel the need to spend a lot of time in the high rise section
