Adv Cert or MA in Literacy

my BS is in Elem Ed
my MS is in School Counseling

i am starting my fourth year teaching fourth grade for NYCDOE. Now what? Is it worth it to get the MS in Literacy along with the NYS Cert, or should I just do the adv cert which is around 18 credits (6 shy of NYS req) and then do another adv cert in another area to get my 30 and above?

be honest!

Re: Adv Cert or MA in Literacy

I would do the adv. cert. if it's going to give you the same certification from the state, i wouldn't waste my time or money on another Masters when all you really need is the certification if you do want the option to teach literacy at some point.... is that the same as a reading certificate?

I was only with DOE for a year so i forget, but aren't there other ways ot get your Masters + 30 or do you have to get another Masters or certificate? my district counts collegial circles and courses offered by Teacher Centers to count towards a Masters + 30 or even 60 credits.... I already have my Masters 've earned 20 credits so far that don't lead to another certification, but they do advance me on the pay scale. Altohugh I am may go for another masters to get to Masters + 60.
