Advanced Directives...Done. (with PSA)
Our attorney just emailed me the paperwork (living will and health care proxy). I have to sign it and have it witnessed.
PSA...DO NOT wait to have this done like I did. Everyone should have a health care proxy and living will and will. Just do it!!!
ETA: It is not that bad. The thought of "doing it" was worse than having it drafted.

Agreed!! Also, if you want to be an organ donor, fill out the card!

Re: Advanced Directives...Done. (with PSA)
I need to do this but I'm torn, honestly I don't know what I want. I'd want to live long enough for people to say goodbye but then there is a part of me that's like dammit what if a cure is made the day after they pull the plug...
I trust my husbands judgement I know it would be too hard for my mother even though I know she would feel the same as DH do I just have him put down as a proxy.. and that's it a huge PITA because alot of year he isn't reachable... argh...
If anyone could be of assistance with what they choose I'd appreciate it.
I need to get mine done ASAP

Laurie- If you want DH to be the decider that's an ok decision, just make sure you put it in writing. Because of the natur eof his work, he could be unreachable perhaps you can put in there...should my husband be unreachable, please let my mother choose after x weeks.
Although, if you were on a machine, wouldn't the military FIND DH?

Yup, they can always find him and believe me due to the nature of his job he would be sent home ASAP because he would be a huge danger doing his occupation if I was in need of a these kind of papers it just could take a week or two. I just need to have them done pretty soon because of the pregnancy and him only being home for conception then gone, 2nd trimester and then gone until after the baby is born in case of major problems.
I think I need to learn more of what is the exact definitions of
"terminal condition" "end- stage condition" "persistent vegatitive state" "no reasonable medical probability for recovery"
Is is chicken'ish to be terrified of the Living Will and just designate a health care surrogate??
