advice (long)

My husband and I have decided that we were not going to start trying TTC until close to the new year.

I just went off the pill 1 month ago and I know I ovulated and AF came on CD32. Then, last night I went and bought a basal thermometer and started to chart my temps this month.

When I got AF, both DH and I were a little disappointed. although we made a mutual decision not to TTC until December, I think I want to start this cycle.

Here's my issue...we live in a small NYC 1br and plan to move out in September 06. If we were to get PG now, we'd have a newborn in our small apt. I know, newborns are small, and don't take up a lot of space. Waiting to TTC just to give birth AFTER we move kind of seems silly to me. right?? It wouldn't be too hard moving with a one month old?

The other issue is...one of my best friends is getting married in late july. I am a BM in her wedding. If I were to get PG I would be giving birth around that time. Would you wait just for that??

I doubt we'd get PG on our 1st try anyway, it's just that I want to start ASAP and waiting to make sure I'm not PG at a wedding seems silly to me.

What would you do?
(sorry so long)

You and your Dh have to decide when the time is right for you. I agree that waiting for a wedding to come is silly. The same thing happened to me. I had told a good friend of mine, who's getting married in June, that we were TTC. She kept telling me then I'd PG at her wedding or wouldn't be able to come because I would have just had the baby. My Dh and I decided that we had waited so long for a baby that we weren't going to post pone TTC for anybody else. Some may say that's selfish but we don't care.
Do what feels right for you. Good luck!

Hi there! I'm a doggielover too! Chat Icon

We are also (hopefully) going to TTC iin January. DH prefers April but I'm working on him- I have such baby hunger!

Personally, if your DH is on board I would start TTC right away. It most likely won't happen on the first try (although you never know). It would be tough to move with a newborn but people have done tougher things. Personally, I wouldn't change my TTC plans for a friend's wedding. Maybe I am selfish but everybody has their own life and if she is a good friend will understand. I know that I would if I was the bride and a friend didn't come because she was giving birth!

Anyway, that's just me but obviously you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with- I hope everything goes your way whatever you decide! Chat Icon

Re: advice (long)

TTC when you feel in your heart you and your dh are ready to be parents.

Thinking about apts, weddings, friend's opinions, etc.... when trying to conceive seems trivial to me.

TTC is like falling in love. When you fall in love with the idea of being a mother, the time is right. You can't plan on 'falling in love' it just happens.

Perhaps my viewpoint is very strong here, but I don't see how , any of those things are that important as compared to becoming a parent.

I think parenthood is an emotional decision. So many people are waiting for this "perfect time".....I wouldn't waste a second if I was emotionally ready.

I couldn't agree with you more...

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being selfish. In a perfect world we'd be able to have life run according to the "master plan".

But we all know, master plans never work the way we expect them to.

I need to do what is best for myself and Dh.

thank you ladies for your advice Chat Icon

Re: advice (long)

My friend is getting married in July too and DH and I are TTC right now. Of course her wedding is the most important thing in her life right now, but having a family is the most important to me. I wouldn't ever put my future on hold for someone else. I've spoken to her about it and she completely understands and is totally excited for me. She knows I may be as big as a house when the time comes, but as long as I'm feeling fine, I will still be in her BP.
As for waiting to move, that's really something you and DH need to talk about. But to be honest, a one bedroom apt. is certainly big enough for a newborn, and that wouldn't make me wait, JMHO
