Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery - ONE more question
So I plan to get mikayla a new bear with scrubs for her surgery....the doctor said they will not allow the bear in the operating room for obvious reasons....
I am not sure If I should let her hold it until she goes into the OR or just give it to her in recovery. I know they will give her versed first to calm her down before they take her to the OR so should I let her hold it while we wait in the waiting room and then take it when they come to bring her to the OR
If she is loopy on the versed, will she cry when I take her bear away or will she be really out of it?
TIA for any advice or suggestions. I plan to take her to build a bear this weekend to get the bear
UPDATE - one more question. She is potty trained (only wears diapers at night and I plan to get rid of these this weekend)
do you think she will be able to hold "it" during surgery and throughout her recovery or should I just put a diaper on her just in case?

Re: Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery
I think she will be too loopy to realize you took the bear, so I would let her snuggle with it until they take her, then give it right back to her at recovery. She will probably think it was with her the entire time. Good luck with everything

Re: Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery
I say give her the bear while in the waiting room, snd take it away as you bring her in the OR room. One of yoyu will walk her into the room and leave when she is knocked out. They have you in the room until she is completely out and then you leave. Then give it back to her in the recovery room. Matthew LOVES his blanky, and did NOT cry when we took it from him. She may cry in the recovery room, bothy my boys did and it is just the reaction from the anasthesia, so dont worry about that. Both of you will be just fine. Whn eyou go home she may take a nap and wake up like NOTHING ever happened

Re: Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery
I have absolutely no experience with this surgery, but I know that I have to move mountains to get anything out of DD's hands on the best of days. So based on my own kid, I say give it to her afterwards. The last thing you need is for her to get upset on the way in.
Good luck!

I know, that is what I am concerned with. I Do think that the medicine they give her before hand will make her loopy so I doubt she would cry but the last thing I want is her to be upset before the surgery....

Re: Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery
I think when she goes to get prepped for surgery (eg, changing clothes, etc), that's when you can't have any personal items. Maybe she can sleep with it the night before, carry it in on the way to the hospital, and then you can tell her the bear will be waiting with mommy in the waiting room whenever it is that you will have to wait there as well. She'll probably also be very loopy when she wakes up, but you will have the bear for whenever she asks for it.

I do not think my hosital allows parents into the OR at all
When DS had his surgery they allowed DH to go into the OR with him and he brought "bear" with him. I wasn't allowed in b/c I am pregnant and not allowed around the anesthesia. I would definetely ask again. Once DS was out, DH left. They kept "bear" in the OR with them and put it under his arm after he was done with surgery.

ah, that is true and thinking it over, even if they allowed it, I am not going to use a diaper....if she has an accident, she has an accident'
I think she will be fine as she is not allowed to drink anything before the surgery

Re: Advice needed - Mikayla's surgery - ONE more question
With G's surgery..she wasn't allowed to drink anything the morning of the surgery and with intraveneous she didn't go until 8pm that night...So i'd go with undies and they put a pad under her anyways...But just know with g they wanted to collect her urine before she was allowed to leave to make sure she was passing enough fluid.
As for the bear..it depends on the hospital i think..the childrens hospital let me go with her into the OR and i was only allowed to stay until they started administering the sleepy gas and they wouldn't let her bring her loveys in there..i held them and gave to her in recovery.
