Advice needed
We live in an apartment in a house. Our oven broke about 6 weeks ago. Told the landlord the day it happened. She has made NO effort to fix it or buy a new one. We keep reminding her, and still nothing. DH now wants to move out, I say give it another month. Is there anything we can do here? Would you just move out too?
ETA- We cant cook so we've been going out to eat a lot lately which means spending money, and gaining weight!

Re: Advice needed
You could always go out and buy a stove and just deduct it from your rent but I would try talking to the landlord again. Even if you do buy the stove and take it out of the rent, I would think about moving out.

Re: Advice needed
I would go buy one and take the cost of it off the rent. When you hand her the rent, give her the receipt as well. Thats what DH and I used to do and the LL had no problem with it.

Re: Advice needed
I would send a certified, return receipt letter (keep a copy) indicating that you if you don't hear from her by x date, you will be be purchasing a new one & deducting it from your rent.

I agree. There's no reason you should be without a working oven for 6 weeks!

Re: Advice needed
I'm pretty sure that is illegal. I think you have to have a sink and a stove.

Re: Advice needed
I would tell them that you are paying them less in rent. The apartment was rented with an oven and that is unexceptable. Then I would start looking for a new place.

Re: Advice needed
I agree with your husband in looking to move now! I would certainly not give it another month---6 weeks is long enough to not be able to cook!
Good Luck!
