Advice/Opinions needed-christening related
Please forgive my rambling- I am planning my DS's christening and am now trying to decide what to do as far as music/entertainment. I will be having about 100 adults and 30 kids with a major age range. The room is a great size w/ a dancefloor. We really don't want to do a DJ but need some kind of music. I know alot of people use an ipod so that may be an option. What kind of playlist do you do? Just background type of music?
Now with so many kids I really want to have something to occupy them. I was thinking to do the face painting/fake tattoo person and/or balloon animals. I also thought I would do like an art table. Maybe order those plastic mugs where the kids can color & insert their pic. & put out crayons. This way they can take them home sort of as their own favor.
What do you think. Please be honest and if you have any recommendations for entertainment I would really appreciate it. Sorry so long! Thanks!

Wow, thats a lot of kiddies. We wanted to keep them occupied too at DD's christening, but I didn't want to go with any entertainment, I bought plain canvas bags from oriental trading and fabric markers for them to design their own bags, which are great for the beach and stuff. I also filled them with stuff for them to do, I bought a small puzzle, coloring book and crayons, little plaster magnet that they could paint, blow up beach ball , bubbles and I had things for them to play outside, little footballs, frisbees, bat and ball (our hall had a big field outside). Kept them busy the whole day. For music, we had a DJ and he basically just played background music, everyone was so busy talking, so the ipod might be the better idea and will save you some money!!
eta- Joann's had a ton of camp crafty stuff and $1 stuff, so I bought a bunch there and then oriental trading and dollar stores were great for stuff too.

Re: Advice/Opinions needed-christening related
That was just like the size of our christening and we had I think about 25 kids.
We opted for a dj (it was a friend so we got a good price.) The dj played more like background music. We got a "clown" to do face painting and balloons (my sister used to be one, so she hired a friend for me. I also set up an arts and crafts table. I made sure that everything I put at it was easy to do. I had a lot of those fuzzy coloring pictures and the foam pieces and foam door hangers. I also got this huge roll of paper and the kids just drew pictures on it. I ordered all of it through oriental trading, and then brought in the markers and crayons from my classroom.
I am so happy that we did all of this. The kids were very happy and the parents were able to have a good time. People that were notorious for leaving parties early actually stayed because their kids were having such a good time!

We had a DJ for my DS's christening and the kids had a ball with him- I specifically asked him to play games with them and to do the traditional "interractive" dances so the adults and kids could enjoy...A craft table is always a good idea too (the foam sticky letters and shapes at Michaels are great because no glue required, east set up/clean up)

Re: Advice/Opinions needed-christening related
I went with my DJ for a few specific reasons.
1. I felt that a DJ was more appropiate due to the venue (hall vs. restaurant).
2. I saw him first at a child's first birthday party and the kiddies had a lot of fun, which meant I wouldn't have to hire additional entertainment (magician, face painter, etc.)
3. He was cheap. I mean I can't believe a dj for 4 hours with lights, giveaways AND a photographer cost so little.
This was the first kid party I've ever hosted so I'm not so good at coming up with my own entertainment. And besides, I had 30+ kids ranging in age from 3 months to 15 years old.
Several of my friends are now booking him based on my party, including the friend that I got the reference from in the first place. If you decide you're interested in a DJ I'll send you his information.
