Advice please for today...
I am invited to a Baby Shower later today. I do not know anybody except the mom-to-be. I am a very social person but I honestly won't know a soul. It is a surprise and not assigned seating.
Do I go regular time, claim a seat, and mingle?
Or come after the surprise to avoid the 1 hour of socializing before the mom-to-be arrives? Hope there is a seat available when I arrive and just watch her open gifts?

I would arrive on time, and grab a seat.
The host may think its rude for you to show up late unless you told her in advance.

(PS- I alwats feel awkward at these things too)

*IMO* it's rude to arrive late to a surprise party. Just go and mingle~ I'm sure there are others there in your same predicament.

I'd go on time & grab a seat. Several ladies (read: friends of my MIL) were late to my surprise bridal shower & well, if I hadn't already had an idea as we pulled up to MILs house, it would've been given away by the women running towards the backyard with presents in hand.

I went to a baby shower where I thought all my friends would be at but they weren't. I showed up a little early and mingled. I made friends and after a while it wasn't so uncomfortable anymore.

Mingle. You have something in common, the bride.
Most women are pretty chatty over food etc. Her family will be happy to meet you and talk to you.
