advice: wedding gift (not money) for a bohemian couple overseas
I'm completely out of ideas.... my friend in scotland is getting married this fall. I'm visitng her and her FH at the end of this month. They both have a rather bohemian/funky style. She is a post-doc, and he is getting his PhD in philosophy... They live in an apt in the city with their rottie.....
I don't know what I should give them! It can't weigh a ton since it will have to go on 2 planes and one long train ride.
(they gave us a giant vase for our wedding last year... don't know how they dragged it all the way over to LI)
Please, anyone, do you have any ideas?

Find out where their closest John Lewis Department store is and buy them gift vouchers. Its not personal, but they are easy to carry!
If they live in a city centre apartment, odds are they don't have much space, so letting them get something they might need is the best idea. What city do they live in? I can help out to find a store there if you want.

I feel bad giving them a giftcard since they custom ordered and then trekked that giant vase over the big pond for us...
they live in edinburgh... I believe in the middle of everything, fairly close to the university.

I wouldn't feel bad, they might have a wedding list somewhere. Houses/flats are so small here that a big gift might not be the thing to do. I would see if they have a registry, why not bring them a small gift from Macy's or something and get them a voucher from a big department store. Or you could just get them something when you get over to Edinburgh that way you don't have to carry it over two flights and a train ride!

I don't mind the idea of getting something off of one of her registries, though...
other than the store you mentioned above (she's not registered there), is there one or 2 other major shops she might have a registry at over there?
(thanks sooo much for being my scottish resource!)

You could try Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Debenhams, BHS. Those are the main department stores, not 100% sure if they are all in Edinburgh, but its worth looking.

I got Marks & Spencer gift vouchers for my friend's wedding in the UK. I also gave them a silver picture frame from Pottery Barn and put the gift card in the frame.

I would give them a digital photo frame so they can easily display all their wedding photos............

Maybe you can give a donation to a cause they are passionate about in their name. I don't know if that's something they're into, but maybe it's worth checking out.
