Re: affordable, famil friendly vaction idea to somehwre warm in Dec/Jan? HELP!!!
I went to the dominican republic last year in December, and found it a really affordable beach vacation destination. Although I was sans baby at that point, I did notice when looking for resorts that there were a ton of family friendly spots.
Good Luck!

Depending on how long you want to go - a cruise is probably your best bet these days they tend to be slightly less than staying on any of the islands and they include meals - so you only have to pay for drinks, and shore excursions if you don't gamble.

FDR Pebbles in Jamaica has a nanny for every family. You have them all day and can use then as much or as little as you want. There are also many family friendly resorts in Cancun and Dr.

Re: affordable, famil friendly vaction idea to somehwre warm in Dec/Jan? HELP!!!
We really enjoyed the Paradisus in Punta Cana- Very relaxed atmosphere and their all inclusive was an incredible value....They have a small tropical zoo on the grounds, nightly shows, kiddie pool, swim-up bars, archery, all non motorized motor sports are included etc......They are a part of the Sol Melia vacaion chain and a few of their other resorts in Punta Cana have a kids program ( Paradisus doesnt- but we still loved it there )....I really like the Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun (again, no kids program there) Its a hotel, not a resort but right on the strip and very convenient with the buses to get into town...I'm jealous- I want to go away now ....

At the end of December this is NOT an affordable option and we went last year I would not even call it family friendly b/c it was SO crowded on board and my parents paid for all of us to go too!
I guess it depends on your exact dates. FOr my family of four we were paying $2400 for 7 nights with a balcony on carnival aound this time. Since that includes food and some acitivities such as kids camp I think that's a great deal. But I guess I am spoiled. I cruise all the time. This would have been my 9th cruise, but we cancelled for a trip to Disney. I've cruised as a couple, with a baby and w/ atoddler and always love my experiences. To each his own.

Re: affordable, famil friendly vaction idea to somehwre warm in Dec/Jan? HELP!!!
We just returned from Punta Cana and stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro. It was nice, the rooms were large and the food was good. I think we paid around $2800 for the 4 us and that included airfare/hotel for 6 nights and all meals and drinks.
