Aflac? The good, the bad?
Just had a meeting at work to sign up. Sounds great. Is it too good to be true? What would you recommend? Thanks

Aflac? The good, the bad?
We have the cancer plan and the plan that covers heart attacks. Make.sure whatever plan you have you use the yearly incentives. Like my cancer plan pays me a certain dollar amount every time I go for a.mammo.

Years ago I had looked into it but back then you had to pay for a year before it kicked in so if something happened before a year you couldn't claim. I never thought it was worth it

I don't think this is the case anymore. A co-worker and friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer a month or so after she signed up for it. She had to send in paperwork that she had no idea she knew about the diagnosis, had visited her doctor, etc. but it was paid out. It really helped because she was out of work for four months.

I have the cancer plan and the disability plan. I hope to never need them, but if I ever find myself in a place that I do, it would be extremely helpful to my family.
The cancer plan pays $100 for screenings, so i get that back every year when I get a pap.
Also, I filed a disability plan when I had DD, even though I still got full pay from work.

I have almost every plan but the cancer.
All of my plans except for Dental are for myself, dh and the kids. (not too sure on the payouts but it's in the vicinity)
Accident-say one of my kids trips over the curb or falls off a chair. As long as you're seen at the dr/hospital within 48 hours you receive $125 I think
Hospital- $375/night (plus $125/night = $500) for the first 5 nights then $125/night after. I took this as a precaution god forbid any one of us ever needed to be in the hospital we were covered for whatever out of pocket expenses we would have (copays, loss of work, anything). I counted my blessings I had this plan when my ds was in the hospital for a week and I missed a week of work. Aflac came through and helped recover financially the week of work I missed, plus helped pay my out of pocket expenses. I HIGHLY suggest this especially if you have kids. THere's also different procedures you get done in the hospital or even out patient (anesthesia, mri, ambulance transport etc) that you get paid out on as well.
Disability- I took this for when we have more kids, or if I am out of work for any reason. My gf was on bedrest with her pregnancy and spent the last 4 months in the hospital. The disability policy along with the hospital policy helped her financially as she obviously couldn't work. I believe there's a waiting period for pregnancy for example. You have to be pregnant for the full 10 months before you can use this (I don't know how it works if you go into labor early but I think your due date has to be 10 months after you start your plan). So say you signed up and you're already 8 weeks pregnant, this won't work.
The good thing about the disability is that the amount you choose (based on your salary) doesn't have anything to do with state disability and short term (through employer). Through them you can have $420 total between the 2) plus Aflac ontop of them.
Dental- I'm the only person I know with dental from them. I took it bc I had to have extensive work done. There are waiting periods for a lot of the categories so if you're having a ton of work done, it's worth it. If not, you get $25 a cleaning and $75 i think for nitrous oxide.

We have the accident plan and are happy with it.
The price varies on the plan.
Other companies are offering similar plans now as well as employers are switching towards employee paid benefits.

employer only. I asked when I signed up
I have the short term disability one in case I get pregnant, I know it wont be an easy pregnancy for me, and I would need a way to help pay rent and bills when I take time off. My employer does not offer maternity leave or disability but for you get thru the state and that's only a few hundred a month.
I do not qualify for the cancer because to Aflec am still being treated for my cancer as I am not 5 years out. Treatment to them means being monitored for 5 years.
This was my first time taking additional coverage, everyone in my office has some type of coverage from them.
From what I hear they do not pay in one day as you must submit paperwork etc.

They do pay pretty fast though. If you send the right info the first time, the turn around time is about a week to 10 days.
If you get a plan and say you're no longer at your job anymore, you can still pay for it on your own which I like.

You can easily get an aflac rep in. Call Aflac and ask about having someone come in.
Just make sure you call Aflac NY.
If you know of anyone who has a friend that does Aflac have them come in.
Also, aflac is a great company to work for. IT's not easy, but it's good.

You can get certain plans individually just not disability. We kept our plans when Dh left his job just lost the disability one.
