AFP test ?
I had the 12 week ultrascreen with bloodwork and babys nuchal fold measured great and blood test came back negative.
Now its time for my AFP testing. I have read so many false positives and i am nervous i will put myself thru unnecessary stress.
ur thoughts on the AFP tests?

Re: AFP test ?
I had perfect results on the NT test and was also nervous about the AFP. If you had perfect results or close to it, chances are awesome that everything will come back the same for the AFP.
At least I think so!

Re: AFP test ?
i felt the same way but went for it anyways Thank God for me it turned out normal. I went at 16w 1d, if something does turn up they have you speak to a genetic counselor who then tells you your chances of something being wrong.
on my level 2 they found a soft marker and i had to speak to a genetic counselor i was so scared for a week soemthing was wrong and i go in to hear my chances went from 1:10000 to 1:8000. so we opted out of an amino and you can always do that too if anything comes up.
also think about you ever aborting your baby. even if my baby had something wrong i was like 22weeks when they told me about the marker he was kicking around all over the place there was no way i was going to risk his life i was going to take my chances.
so just think exactly what you would do if you were put in such a bad situation would you live with the Gift the Lord blessed you with or would you terminate your pregnancy and start over again, its all about what you and your husband think.
I wish you the best and pray you never have to go through the week of torture i went through,
Best of luck

Re: AFP test ?
I Don't do the AFP. With my first PG , which was a loss, but regardless, the AFP came back really high and the stress I went through, only to find out in the end it was a false positive. I just dont think its neccesary unless you plan to possible terminate a PG b/c of the results. We will not, so the test is not neccesary. We only do the ultrascreen b/c some defects tested for can be fixed immedietly after birth ( heart) and would want to be prepared.

Re: AFP test ?
Many false positives especially at 40 snd over.. I was 1-26 before the afp then after 1-5.. I had an amnio and my baby is normal.. that's how false this test can be.. Do not get upset with a low number.. I went through very un necessary stress..
