AFP Test Basic Info?
Can someone tell me what exactly they do at the AFP test? Tell me to get bloodwork, and/or sono, etc? And what it tests for--is it further genetic testing?
I go for my 16-week appointment soon, they didn't mention anything about the AFP testing then, but should I assume it will be done then?

I was reading in your pregnancy week by week the other day, and it has to do with checking for spina bifida and a serious central nervous system defect.
It's a blood test, if there is an abnormal # then they can do an ultrasound

I went today - Quest Labs - they took just 1 vial of blood. I am 18 weeks.
No sonogram. The next will be your Level II at 20 weeks (I just had my 16 week appt.).
