the bush is loaded with beautiful blooms this yr. BTW, did you know hydrangeas like to grow in a partly shady spot? I could tell why on those HOT days we had; They wilted quickly!!! Mary

love hydrangeas!
Me too, Jackie!!!! I'd love to plant more, in different varieties/colors!!! If these blooms stay nice, I'll have some beautiful dried flowers, in the fall!!!! I'm thinking this would be neat to try to make with the dried blooms!!! Mary

Ohh yea I have one monster that wilted really bad in the heat last year. But I found out that the wilting is a defense mechanism, so that there is less leaf surface for the sun to beat down on. Interesting, right? They perk right up when the sun goes down.
I agree about the part sun location, 2 of mine get morning sun only and although they are generally healthier looking in the heat, they're just not as big as the other that has sun all day. So you're kind of forsaking size for health, you know?
My monster, taken last year:
In bloom last year:
I don't have pics of the others because they're not my favorites! But they're purple.
I just bought a very small "Pinky Winky" this year, really excited to see this one bloom:
