Agents
I have talked to a few but never went with one specifically. Why do you have to?

Yes, we found our first condo on our own - we had our current house built. However, before deciding on having it built, we would search for homes ourselves, then call the listing agent for a showing. They would like to do the "I'll drive you trick" and show us houses we weren't interested in.
I see you are looking in the Centereach area. If I see anything, I'll let you know. I work in Stony Brook and usually pass through there a couple of times a week.

Re: Agents
I signed my agent as a byer broker b/c then as I buyer I had representation in the beginning of the deal. The listing agent is legally bound to the seller and must act in the best interest of the seller. We had much more information available to us, and some bargaining power also, once we had our broker.

You are correct, we would contact the selling agent on a house we found. However, we didn't work exclusivley with one particluar agent. If we didn't like the house, that was the end of the relationship.
