Ah, I have to quit my job! I'm so nervous!

DH got an internship closer to DC so we'll be moving... which is fine with me because:

A) The calendar at this school is TERRIBLE and it's going to be worse next year.

B) I hate living in a town where the population of farm animals exceeds that of humans 4:1

I do really love my administration and collegues though... and I hate leaving after a year.

Can anyone help me with how to approach this? I want to leave on good terms... and also need to get reference letters for a new job.

Thanks!

Are you finishing out the school year? If so, I would not worry too much. Since you are on good terms with them, they should be understanding. It's a perfectly legitimate reason to leave.

Easier said than done, but I'd tell them ASAP so that they can get a good replacement for you, and you can get those letters so you can apply for new jobs right away.

Yes, I am finishing out the year... and I did mention that my leaving might be a possibility at the end of the year since Kev couldn't get an internship in the area... But it would be feasible (just annoying) to commute... so I'm so afraid that i won't find another job... even though there are many teaching jobs near dc...

Ugh, I hate interviewing.

If you are close enough to commute where you are moving, I would not quit your job until you have a new one. You want to be able to be selective if you can as to where you want to work next school year. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm trying to hold on as long as I can... but at the same time, I need references! So I don't know what to do!

Also, I worry if we could afford to live closer to DC on the salary I get now (about $8,000 - $10,000/year less then I'd make if I went to a DC area school).

I really hope I get an intent to hire letter at the job fair this weekend Chat Icon

If i commuted it would probably be about 40 minutes for me (I wouldn't be driving in traffic) and 40+ minutes for Kev... who would be driving in traffic.

We're not used to having actual people around anymore Chat Icon
