AI Spin-off.. Does it bother you that some of the top 24 have had recording contracts?
I whined about this in another post, but wanted to bring the issue up in it's own forum.
Top 24 members that are already "in the biz"
Now that we know these contestants, does it bother you that some of them have recording contracts before?
Carly, especially, has been signed, promoted, etc. Is AI really the place for her to be trying to "make it big"?
I think they should stick with the "nobodys", it is much more interesting and emotional that way.

I want to see people who came from nowhere. Wasn't that the whole idea with AI from the beginning? Or has this been going on since season 1?

I am really disappointed to read this! This totally blows and to be honest, it has taken away alot for me about this show. I was always taken back by their talent and now it's not the same.

I think the only one that really bugs me is Carly. The rest, they've been in the business but obviously aren't all that successful. Carly bugs me because she's almost like an AI plant. Although I really like her, it makes me NOT want to vote for her.

They were really strict in the beginning about this, and made it clear the rule was that you couldn't have gotten paid for singing professionally about that.
I haven't heard them talk about "the rules" in awhile so I have no idea when they got relaxed.

I don't think so - I think it gives talented pepole the opportunity to showcase their talents to the world -
There are hundreds of hopefuls who are signed to labels and don't make it -
It's up to a bunch of executives how you are developed, promoted, what opportunities are given to you - etc......
Something like this gives those people who may be very talented a completely different opportunity -

It does bother me a little. Especially watching Carly - who I loved before I read that she'd already had an album and all that - say things like, "Maybe this will finally be my chance!" or whatever she said. I want to yell at the TV, "You already had your chance!"
It seems unfair to me that they advertise the show like they're helping these regular, everyday people get discovered, when really they might just be helping a professional singer be promoted.
Doesn't mean I won't watch, though...

Well.. that totally explains why the talent this year is must better then every other one of the previous years-COMBINED!
To answer your question, this does bother me alot. Kind of makes you think that this show is rigged.

I haven't looked at the list, but I don't like it. Apparently Carly, the Irish girl has had a record out and it was a big flop. Almost $2M was spent on promoting her and the record only sold 400 copies, and guess who produced it...thats right, some people who produced Kelly Clarkson's album (the first one, not the Max Martin one) and some others involved in American Idol.
It really p.isses me off...the show is all about NEW talent, not old talent that they want to promote. I believe that on the X Factor here, if they have Management, they aren't allowed to participate in the contest. Its not right to fool people into thinking they are brand new, unfound talent.

i think idol should be for the people that want to get in the business. if there's some that have a contract, i don't think that's fair to the other contestants
