Aidan's Ornament
ok here's my 2nd PS project, took MUCH longer than just figuring out the eraser LOL. Around the picture should be blended and softer.. but you get the idea.

Thank you! I found the directions for using photoshop online. I used PS Elements and I think there was one or two steps I couldn't do, but most of it is the same. Here they are: Good luck!
– Open a new transparent document. I sized mine to a 9” x 9” 300 DPI (resolution) Also open up the image you want to use. Just leave it in the background. We will get to that in a few steps
– Select a color for your ornament.
– Select the Ellipse tool. (9th row down on left side of tools) If the tool is not the Ellipse tool, right click on it and a menu should open allowing you to be able to select the Ellipse tool.
– Using the Ellipse tool, draw a fairly large circle on our canvas
– Duplicate the layer.
– Change the color of the bottom layer to white. In your layers window, click in the color box of the bottom layer to change it.
– On the colored layer on top, lower the opacity a little. I put mine to 85
– At the top, go to LAYER -> RASTERIZE -> SHAPE
– Then I went to FILTER -> RENDER -> LENS FLARE. I set mine at around 125% brightness with a 105mm Prime lens. I positioned it toward to upper left of the ornament I f the lens flare adds any yellow dots you don’t like. Use the clone tool and remove it.
– On the picture you want in the ornament, select the area you want (if not the complete image). Set your feather to around 50 PRIOR to selecting the area
– Use the arrow tool and drag and drop onto the ornament.
– Resize the image to fit the area you want to use.
– Lower the opacity to around 75 (or whatever you like – play around with it)
– Using the ERASER tool, select an airbrush tool (larger size. Lower the brush opacity to around 50 and softly brush around the edges of your image until you have a nice edge
– On the Image layer, go to FILTER -> DISTORT -> SPHERIZE Hit okay.
– Now add you text. Select the text tool, color, font and size and type directly on the ornament what you want it to say.
– At the top select LAYER -> RASTERIZE -> TYPE. Hit ok
- With the TEXT layer selected, go to FILTER -> DISTORT -> SPHERIZE. Hit ok.
– Select LAYER -> LAYER STYLES -> DROP SHADOW. Adjust the drop shadow settings to your liking. Hit ok.
– Repeat the steps for text if you have more than one text layer
– Select the ornament layer.
– Burn in the left side slightly to add a more realistic effect to it. (7th tool on the right looks like a hand with the thumb and index finger touching)
– Blur the area you burned in with the blur tool. (7th tool on the left. Looks similar to a teardrop. If that is not the right tool, right click to select the correct one.)
– Use the CUSTOM SHAPES tool. Find this in the same spot as the ellipse tool. Just right click on the tool to find the one you need and select it. Select the color you want
– At the top there should be a box that you can choose a snowflake from the drop down menu (if you wish)
– Draw your snowflake.
– At the top go to LAYERS - > LAYER STYLES – BEVEL AND EMBOSS. Choose Inner Bevel, mooth and then adjust the bars to your liking.
– In your layers window, right click on the snowflake layer and copy the layer style.
– Draw the other snowflakes you’d like to use using the custom shapes tool
– On all the snowflake layers (In your layers window) right click and apply layer style to each one.
– When everything is to your liking, go to LAYER -> MERGE VISIBLE
– Add your ornament topper (provided for you to save here) Open the image after saving it in Photoshop.
– Drag & Drop the topper to the ornament. Position to your liking
– At the top, go to LAYERS -> MERGE VISIBLE
– Save as a .PNG file to keep the background transparent for use in other projects.
You also need to save this topper pic to add to the top of it: (FM me if the resizing makes it not usable, I'll email it to you)
