Airport transportation that has car seats

We just called airport transportation to make arrangements for a future trip, and they said that they do not have any car seats available. I assumed that they would (I don't fly too often). Does anyone know of an airport transportation company that does have car seats available? What do you do when taking a flight? Long term parking?

Can someone drive you? I am having someone drive my car and drop/pick us up. You can also strap in your car seat into a cab.

We flew last October and used a car service that did bring a car seat for us to use to and from the airport. I will have to look into who we used and get back to you because the name is escaping me......it could have been 5 Star.

Also we rented a car and car seat from Hertz once we got to our destination and the car set they provided was perfectly fine! Clean, up to date, and very easy to install. They actually let you choose your own car seat from a little area that had all different ones (there were a bunch to choose from).

You can purchase a brand new seat to travel with for less than $75 that is lightweight and no frills. I would just practice installing it prior to your trip. If you choose not to use the seat on the plane (which I always suggest you do) then you can gate check it for free.

The concern with "rented" car seats is

1- how they are maintained. Clean normally is a good thing but in this case HOW they are cleaned is important. Most health regulations require that rentable baby items be cleaned with chemicals such as bleach. For a car seat, this is awful since the bleach/chemicals can actually cause damage to the fibers in the webbing of the harness/latch straps weakening them. If the seat is shiny clean, you should be suspicious. How many of our own seats get absolutely filthy from bottles, sippies, spit up/vomit, dirt etc?

2- there is no guarantee that the seats have not been crashed. Mary and John Doe rent a car and get in a minor accident. The person receiving the car back doesn't know the seats should be replaced and puts them back out for rental to the next unsuspecting person. Happens all the time, unfortunately.

3- Incorrect seat for child's age/missing parts/expired etc you don't know what you're going to get when you arrive to choose a seat.

I would ( offer ) pay a friend or relative not going to drive me!
