Alarm Installation--Good Price?
Hello,
We just got a quote from a small private company to install an alarm.
For $1850, we would get:
Remote key entry (you can activate the alarm with something that looks like a car alarm pad)
2 motion detectors in the house
sensors on every door and window on both floors (we have 3 entry ways and about 12 windows)
garage door (that leads to the house) on separate system
wireless
If we want heat sensors and 2 smoke detectors it's another $400
Additionally, there's a monthly cost of $25 a month.
What do you think? Thank you

Re: Alarm Installation--Good Price?
I think you could get a better deal with Slomins since they will give you the doors for free and maybe a motion or two.
If I had to guess a similar deal with Slomins would be about half that. Only issue though is monitoring would be a little more. I pay about $34 a month which includes my wireless cell service.
$25 a month is cheap if it includes cellphone backup service, but you have to factor in the cost of the install offsetting this bargain.

Re: Alarm Installation--Good Price?
We paid about that last year for a wireless system with:
glass breaks on all of our windows (23 I think?) 3 entry doors 1 motion sensor 2 smoke detectors 1 heat sensor 2 remote entry keyfobs 1 keypad
Our monthly monitoring is about that much too.
We were upgrading our existing system which had the old foil on the windows and was not wireless. I was not interested in Slomin's as I've heard from several people over the years that they put a 5 year lien on their house and someone who moved within those 5 years had to pay Slomin's back for the "free" install.

Thank you both for the info!
I edited up top, but we have about 12 windows not 8 like I originally said. Still seems like the quote is high.
Cathy: What company did you use? Thank you

Lowitt Alarms
My ILs used them before we bought the house, so they've been alarming this house for over 25 years now.
