Alarm installation techs - do I tip?
Help! I have no idea...they said they are going to be here til around 4 or 5.

Truthfully, I am so sick of people expecting tips for DOING THEIR JOB 
If they go ABOVE AND BEYOND I will tip them...that's it
That is my new rule

My DH installs alarms. Not everyone tips, so if you do or don't, it's not a big deal. BUT, if he went out of his way and didn't get a tip, he was PO'ed. I'd say about half of the people tipped, and when they did, believe it or not it was usually $20.

thats what i was thinking...there are 2 guys here, so is 20 bux each fair?

I didn't tip the last time an alarm tech came.
It was during one of our small winter storms and he had to shovel our deck to get to the basement, then our dog kept barking at him and trying to scare him, plus it was freezing outside and he spent some of the time re-routing some wires outside.
I usually wouldn't have tipped, but I felt horrible about it and called the alarm company to tell them what a great job the guy did and how pleasant/professional/friendly/helpful the kid was. They sent us a letter of thanks and said that a positive reference letter was put in the tech's file.

I wound up tipping him (actually my DH did). We felt like it was the right thing to do. They worked from 9-6 and did a good job.
