Alex had a difficult first day

I picked her up yesterday and she seemed to be in good spirits but then they told me she had an accident while at late care - pee, not even poop - and instead of changing her undies, the late care teacher put her in diapers. Now why would you do that to a child that is pottytrained??

And then I find a note in her back from her new, crazy teacher saying Alex refused to nap, slept for only 20 minutes and cried for an hour afterwards, with a little sad face on it Chat Icon

I know what it is, Alex feels uncomfortable in her new setting, and of course she can't nap easily. She's used to her old teacher who would cuddle with her to nap, or rub her back. And I TOLD the new teacher that Alex usually wakes up from her naps grumpy and that's when she needs a little extra TLC.

Her old teachers were PHENOMENAL with this, knew this was Alex's "thing" and gave her all the time and cuddles she needed to come out of the nappy crank. It was even a joke amongst them.

I just feel like this teacher is so out there - she's good with the kids when it comes to activities and keeping them stimulated, but Alex also needs that warmth - someone she can bond with, someone who "gets" her and all her little grumpy idiosyncracies and doesn't take it so seriously when she's cranky, and instead, shifts the focus and gets her to laugh, and I don't know if this teacher has what it takes.

It just breaks my heart to think that Alex won't be getting the emotional support that she needs. I know I can't expect this from the teachers when she's school age, but now, at 3, she really needs that kind of support to find her own confidence. She just BLOOMED with her last teachers, but now I fear she'll regress a little.

I asked her yesterday if she liked her new teachers and she said she wasn't sure Chat Icon

BTDT moms, any words of inspiration? Am I overanalyzing?

I am not a BTDT mom but I would give it some time. Even though you told the teacher Alex's needs, she might want to see them for herself so she knows how to accodimate her properly.

Now, I can be completely wrong here, but I think as she gets into the older classes it might be more difficult to get teachers to cuddle with her.

I just think that the teacher and Alex need to find some middle ground on how to help each other out and they will find it with time.

Thanks for the response Chat Icon Consciously I know that, I just need to give it a little time and let them figure out their own rythm.

I can relateChat Icon

Roman's old teacher was soooo good with him and you could really tell she was there for the kids emotionally. I keep telling myself that it's an adjustment for parents, teachers, and kids. Hopefully in time all will work out.Chat Icon

Re: Alex had a difficult first day

It's sad. I consider kids before 1st grade to be still babies.

I wish some teachers would understand the kids are not grown-ups.
