Alex moves to her new class next week
And I'm very nervous. Her current teacher is a miracle worker, and Alex simply loves her. I spoke on the phone with her new teacher and I didn't get a good vibe. I asked her some simple questions, like, when does camp start, and can we provide our own lunches instead of using the school lunch, and isntead of answering she said, I can't tell you that, you're going to have to speak to the Director Ok, I understand maybe for the lunch issue, but you don't have "authority" to tell me when camp starts? Give me a break.
I've heard mixed stories about this woman - everyone tells me that she's generally kooky, but that's what makes her GREAT with the kids. And the good thing is Alex is moving up to this class with her three best friends. But, I also know two parents who immediately pulled their toddlers out of this school and transferred them to a different synogogue once they entered this class.
So, this is a long-winded way of asking, how can I better prepare Alex for this transition? She's very attached to her current teacher and teacher assistant.

Re: Alex moves to her new class next week
Do they not do anything at the daycare to ease the transition...like have Alex go with the new teacher for some of the day....that is what my place is doing w/Sydney?

I'm not sure what, if anything, is being done at her school, which is my fault for not asking, which I will do when I pick her up today. I do know that her new teacher has met Alex, and that the two classes play together on the playground so she's very familiar with her. I just have a sinking feeling in my tummy because my conversation with her really rubbed me the wrong way.

Hopefully it was just that she was having an off day and you were too with all the stress you've been under.

Hopefully - and I need to remember that everyone warned us that we might not like her, and that's she's a little "off" with adults but that she's amazing with the children.
Uch. The things we stress over for our children!

Re: Alex moves to her new class next week
Ryan is going to a new room soon too and I'm stressing over it also. I have heard from many parents that the kooky ones are the ones that are great w/kids, even though we may think they're odd/have no personality. The teacher I liked the least in his infant room (I used to call her Miss Mopey) ended up being the one who told me he was her favorite, and to whom he would go when fussy and no one else could calm him. So you never know! Hopefully it was just an off day for her when you spoke to her.
