Alice McDermott fans?
I've read all of her books, and I bought her newest one when it came out in hardcover. It's called After This and is set on Long Island in the 1960's just like all of the rest of her books, pretty much. It's WONDERFUL. If you've read Charming Billy or That Night or any of her others, definitely pick this up. Her writing style is just understated and wonderful. (My favorite of her books is At Weddings and Wakes if anyone wants to read a REALLY good one.) After This is out in paperback now too.
