All you city ladies ..geographical clash? Trick or Treat question for you..
When you were growing up, where did you go T or T'ing?
I am confused here's why:
A relative, who lives in the city (born & raised), will be coming over Halloween and asked where we are taking DS T or T'ing. DS is finally old enough to appreciate it.
We live in the 'burbs in a neighborhood area.. no busy roads or anything nearby. Your typical Suffolk 'hood.
I replied that we'd take him up and down the streets.
They looked at me like I was nuts and then asked if I knew any of my neighbors. I said I don't, besides a wave here or there, but I know there are a few kids on my block.
Then they suggested we just scrap Halloween altogether and take DS to Chuckie Cheese.
?
I don't know if people do it differently in the city, so can someone educate me?
I wasn't sure how to handle this or if I'm wrong? I figured this city relative would be happy to come out and go 'burb Trick or Treating with my kiddo, and that was the whole reason.. anyone have any clue?
Thanks!

I think it's the razor blade in the apples theory.
If you think about it, you teach your kid not to take candy from strangers, dress them up & have them take candy from strangers...so I do understand their point.
I think if I lived in a place that was transient like the city, I wouldn't be comfortable bringing my kid door to door.
That said - I'd never scrap Halloween Trick or Treating.... if she is very insistent, the stores in many villages do a trick or treating thing on Halloween.

yeah, that's true.. I thought of that. But doe that mean no kids in the city T o T? Like in apartment buildings? I find it so interesting the difference, even though it makes sense.

My nieces and nephews live in apartment buildings, they ToT through the whole building but then usually hit up some of the neighborhood stores.
I am in Queens and we went to every single house in the neighborhood growing up LOL
I just wasnt allowed to eat candy until it was checked.

I didn't grow up in the city but we live there now.
We plan to go trick or treating at the museum of natural history.
DH and I were just saying how we will never let our children eat candy from trick or treating.

Same here but I was in the Bronx.
When I lived in Manhattan, all of the kids trick or treated within the building. They had a sign up for those interested in giving out candy and the kids were given a sheet with apt #s by the doorman.

I didn't grow up in the city but lived there for years. When we lived in Astoria no kids came around to the buildings but ALL of them came out and TOTed all the stores. I always had a huge bowl of candy that never got taken. When we moved into manhattan the kids in my neighborhood came to more buildings but still mostly just to the stores.
