Allergic reactions ? Moms with experience ??
LAst Friday I posted about my Luca ( 2 1/2) having an allergic reaction/rash all over him.
I had a busy weekend and didnt get a chance to get back online much, but this "allergic reaction" is still lingering in his system We THOUGHT it was GONE when the BEnadryl kicked in but didnt realize those little suckers would reappear once it wore off..
WE went to the Dr saturday morning. We had been giving him BEnadryl throughout Friday nite. So Sat. the Dr did see some of the rash but not full blown since he had Benadryl in him.
He did say that it looks like something that touched his skin, not something he ate (how do they know that ? )
and he told us to give him Benadryl for 2 (or 3 ? I forgot) days straight, and after that, as needed.
Well its still been NEEDED since last Friday. WE've done every 6 hours. I think twice we went an hour past the 6, and maybe once 2hours, but other than that, this little welts still keep popping up. Theyre on his face, legs, arms, feet. They are raised welts, some of them pretty big, like 3-5 inches long, 2 inches wide, just splotches all over, some tiny some huge...
WE really have NO idea what it could be. My MIL washed them in Irish spring (i dont know WHY ) they had gone to the park, sprinklers, and she really cant think of anything else that touched his skin. As far as what he ate, nothing different, hes such a picky eater that its impossible to get him to taste new things anyway.
And he's been home since friday nite (It started in Queens Friday at 4pm) and he was home here by 6pm...
Any ideas? ADvice ? Whats the norm for an allergic reaction to get out of your system ? The secr did offer me an apptmt tonite but said to tell you the truth theres nothing we can do. and I said Id call by back Friday.... Hes not in any pain, Thank God, but he does itch here and there, and just slight itching nothing severe...
help, I have zero experience with allergies
thanks

You said MIL took them to the park. Is it possible he could have touched somthing there?
Did you change the detergent you wash his clothes with?

Hi, My 2 year old daughter is peanut allergic and has eczema. I would suggest you see an allergist asap. I can recommend a few to you depending on where you live. I used to be in pharma sales, so I know a few in Nassau and Suffolk. They will probably want to do blood testing. Quest diag in Massapequa does a great job with children. You may also want to meet with a Dermatologist. But I would definately see an allergist first. If I can help at all, please contact me.
Good Luck, Tara

Re: Allergic reactions ? Moms with experience ??
Both Maddie & Joe had a contact reaction. I want to say they called it cellulitis(??). They got it from the water at the beach. Maddie had it immediately & got over it quickly. Joseph didn't have anything until 2 days later & then broke out with a huge rash.
It didn't itch them. It was a swollen patches of skin. It took at least 3-4 days for Joseph to start looking normal & for the creeping crud to disappear.

Re: Allergic reactions ? Moms with experience ??
YEs, Barbara, swollen patches, thats exactly how I would describe this too
As far as the other suggestions, he rarely has PBJ, his brother loves it, he can take it or leave it. but he has eaten it with no problems.
We thought of something on the grass at the park, who knows..
If we see an allergist, isnt he too young to be tested (he's 2 1/2)...
thanks ladies

It could definitely be from the Irish Spring that is some strong soap, it gives me a rash. I would keep up with the benadryl and then if it doesn't go away maybe see a pediatric dermatologist/allergist
