Allergy Sufferers PLEASE come in.
hi,
I have never had allergies but last weekend DH brought home some daffodils ( a lot!) and I had them in my kitchen. the next day I woke up with slight swelling on my right eye but did not link the two as I have never been allergic to any flowers before.
By tuesday the swelling was worse so I went to the doc and he told me it was allergies and prescribed nasonex, eye drops and saline spray. Fast forward to today and its worse - eyes puffy and slightly closed - lots of swelling underneath my eyes and cheek area - red and scratchy underneath my eyes- I look like the elephant man - seriously
Should I go back to the doc?
Is this really allergies?
Any advice?
Thanks
PS I am nursing so doc did not recommend benadryl as it can dry up your milk.

My allergies are magnified when I am pregnant....which I am now. I am on Zyrtec and Rhinocort (nasal spray). They will be safe for nursing, although I don't know about drying up your supply.
My sister uses the neti pot and swears it helps her. She uses it every night.
It doesn't cut it for me though. But maybe try it.

Re: Allergy Sufferers PLEASE come in.
Zyrtec is good, but you can't be on it too long as it drys you out and yoru nose shouldn't be dry. IF you are having success with Zyrtec, pickup up Ayr saline spray. So that you can keep your nose moist.
Also, the Neti pot is GREAT!! What happens your nose acts as many functions. The hairs filter out good/bad coming through your nose. Also you have what are called turbinates in your nose, which warm the air your nose intakes before going into your lungs. With the extremely all-time high pollen count between the hairs and turbinates in your nose, the pollen gets stuck on them thus causing allergy "attacks", start the mucus sucretions and blah blah blah. When you use the neti not only is it moisturizing your nose it is rinsing the pollen and other pollutants from your nose. You will have less allergy problems and prevents possible sinus infections as the water passes through your sinus' cleaning them out. Hope this helps. If you need help or hints on using the neti just FM me.

Re: Allergy Sufferers PLEASE come in.
Wow thanks everyone. I went back to the doctor and she gave me a prescription for advair so fingers crossed that might work She also gave me a script for an antibiotic. I am nursing so the steroid cream is an issue although she said there are a couple that are safe to use but she would rather hold off for a few days.
Roxygrl - Thanks for all the info the neti pot idea - can I get those at CVS or somewhere like that?
Eddies mom - to your son - I cannot imagine ..poor little guy
