Almost 4 year old got bit by another child in camp
Camp nurse called me and told me the other child bit my son in the back and the bite went through his skin, so she wanted to make sure his immunizations were up to date. I checked with our pediatrician, and was told they want to see my son in their office and put him on antibiotics. The camp nurse called me back and said that the bite did not go through the skin as she initially though, but the doctor’s office suggests we should still bring him on to ‘document the injury.’ Can you please help me understand why it is important to have the bite documented? P.S. I also posted that another child intentionally hit my daughter with a swimming board in the pool two days ago in the same camp. Let’s just say this is not a great week for us.

Shouldn't they be worried about the other kids shots too? And let you know. I'd make camp pay the copay. Almost 4 year olds shouldn't be biting.
What's their plan to keep that kid away from your DS?

Camp called the child's parents and told them the child would be asked to leave the camp if that happens again.

The human mouth is very dirty and full of bacteria. A bite through the skin can easily become infected and that is why they want him seen at the doctor.

yes, this! I would definitely take him in. I'm sorry that you are having a tough week with camp and these bullying kids

Almost 4 year old got bit by another child in camp
My son was bite a few months ago by a family friends kid...it happens...my ped suggested he come in and get it looked out, it didnt break the sink so he didn't need an meds. He documented so god forbid he go sick with something in the weeks to follow they could rule out any illness of infection caused by the bite

Poor kid- biting is so primal- not socially or developmentally appropriate for a four year old. I can remember a similar thing happening to my DS and it feels awful.
Kicking the biter out is not actually a plan to deal with the behavior- that's a consequence if they act out again. How are they dealing with this with the kid?

I was told the boy will be kept away from my son. Don't know what if anything will be done to prevent this happening to other kids in their group.
