Am I crazy - Question for moms with 1-2yr old and newborn..
To want to have another baby?
As you know I had my first child 16 years ago...he'll be 17 in April. DD will be 3 months in November. There is a a HUGE gap between my son and my DD. I'd love to have one more and am seriously considering trying once DD turns 1. However, I'm also afraid because I'll be 37 going on 38 by the time the next baby would come around. I know women my age and older are having babies, but I just get afraid since the older you get the more at risk you are for certain things.
I'm just wondering for those who have done this, how hard is it to have a newborn and a 1yr old or toddler?

Re: Am I crazy
Im not talking from experience...but have seen my SIL experience this.
At 3 months pp, she got pg again. How she handles it, very well. Was a SAHM and just does what she needs to do to make it work. Sal, the 3rd child..is also a good child which made things easier for her. She is also over 35.

I havent experienced this but.. i just wanted to let you know what i was told at my OBs office.. since more women are having babies later in life, they are able to see less children being born with problems.. so they are going to bump the age for additional testing on mothers from 35 to 40..

Re: Am I crazy - Question for moms with 1-2yr old and newborn..
I just had #2 (2.5 mos old now) and I have 2.5 year old. It has been rough - I would say mostly since #2 has been colic and refuses to leave my arms. The guilt of feeling like I am ignoring #1 is the hardest part for me. My #1 is a good boy but still needs attention and more of my time than I have to give him. The days are exhausting but that said if I go for #3 - I won't wait for 2.5 year difference - I want closer to 20mo-2yr - I'll be 35 this year - so I don't want to wait too too long as well - not as much for pregnancy issues - i just kind of want to move to the next stage of life eventually.
I don't think you are crazy for thinking about #2 and I think 1.5-2 years is a great difference between kids and totally do-able.

I haven't had the second one yet but I didn't meet my DH until later in life and we always said we would have two at least. So I will be having #2 at 38 and had DD when I just turned 37. So if you want to do it, I don't see why not.

In my case I think because I had my son at 19 and the circumstances were so different then than they are now, meeting DH later on in life, getting married etc. Although I am 35 going on 36, I still feel younger than what I am even though my internal clock is ticking.
I too want to be able to move to the next stage in life, but also feel like this is the next stage in my life. I had so much freedom before DD was born and was able to do and enjoy so much that now I just feel like this is what I'm supposed to do and then DH and I will be able to enjoy the rest of the time we have together with our family.
does that make any sense?
Of course if I can't have another, I won't feel incomplete, because I was able to have my 2 beautiful children, but I'd just love to be able to have another for DD to grow up with and to have that semi-big family that I never had.
