Am I One Of The Only Considerate Moms Left These Days? RE: children in your child's daycare class being invited to your child's birthday party and not responding
All I can say is what is wrong with people(and if you're one of them then sorry, I think) to not respond with a simple phone call that states YES or NO to a birthday party.
I invited 18 of my DD's classmates in her 3-year old class at daycare to her birthday party on October 2nd and the RSVP date is this Thursday. I have heard from 1, that's right, 1 parent so far.
I am frustrated and HATE inconsiderate, classless people who have the nerve to not respond. I don't care how busy your life is, mine is probably busier than most and I still ALWAYS reply 100% of the time. Granted some may still reply by end week, but I am doubtful most will at this rate.
Thanks for letting me vent! And yes...this was just that, a venting session.

I know it's frustrating. But maybe since school just started, they are on the fence? Do they know your DD from a previous year?

I would just assume they are all no's. Sorry.
I'm new to the preschool scene but I always RSVP. That is what I hate most about party planning - the RSVPs!

Same thing happened to me. Out of 18 kids, 3 RSVPed by the date and I even put in a reminder and only ONE of the 15 responded to that. It's not just you.

that's why I put my email instead of a phone number for rsvps...just easier for most, but still not an excuse

Re: Am I One Of The Only Considerate Moms Left These Days? RE: children in your child's daycare class being invited to your child's birthday party and not responding
Eh the 1st time I was annoyed but it seems to be more and more the norm and not the exception these days. It still drives me crazy but from talking with other parents IRL it seems like they are all going through it to. DD#1's 3rd bday (she is a June bday) I had to ask like 9 of the 11 parents after the RSVP date, and with her party this year like 14 of the 17 parents and one told me no then yes a few days before the party. I just grabbed a bunch while waiting for pick up and said hey did anyone get my DD's invite and are you coming I'm trying to get a final count for favors and cupcakes. Almost always I hear - oh it was on our fridge and we are definitely coming I just forgot to call. This year I gave both an email and phone number thinking that would help but it didn't.

Re: Am I One Of The Only Considerate Moms Left These Days? RE: children in your child's daycare class being invited to your child's birthday party and not responding
I'm guilty.
I'm working 14 hour days. By the time I get home, cook dinner, clean up from dinner and put the kids to bed, it's already 9:00, and I'm assuming they don't want to hear from me then.
I know it's frustrating...but please understand that some people don't mean it to be rude...it's that it's literally #132 on a list of 500 things that need to get done. Don't take it personally.

I don't even invite classmates. Too much hassle.
But when DD was invited to a few parties, I sent a note in her lunch box to decline and a small gift for the child, I.e. A coloring book and crayons or matchbox cars.

Oh please. My DD's birthday party was on Saturday. I invited all the girls in her class and 4 NEVER responded. Meanwhile, I was having it out...I paid for two extra girls just in case.
Trust me, I am procrastinator extraordinaire...but to not call AT ALL??? Wrong.

I think it's incredibly rude not to RSVP to a party. Incredibly. And to make excuses for it is even worse.

You never really know why someone does not respond. I have a few friends who are involved in custody issues & sometimes the parent who gets the invitation is not the one who will be with the child on the party date. At the beginning of the school year it can be tough. Even if the child is only 3 they could have siblings going back to school. I think that a follow up note would be fine, though.

I specifically write on our invites "please let us know if you can or cannot make it" or something to that effect, so they realize they need to email/call either way.

so rude! Last year a child in my DD's daycare class had a b-day party and the mom had to ask the teacher to ask the parents to RSVP! I felt so bad for the mom, it is very rude.

Totally agree, it takes less than 5 minutes to call/write saying yes or no

Re: Am I One Of The Only Considerate Moms Left These Days? RE: children in your child's daycare class being invited to your child's birthday party and not responding
I know... I've been on both sides.
I invited my own family to an event recently & only had 1/40 people respond. I had to hunt them down.
On the other side, in addition to working FT, I have checklists of things to do that enormous & it's just not a top priority, so I usually leave it until last minute. I literally call the day of the RSVP 90% of the time.
BUT the RSVP date IS Thursday... and today is Wednesday!
Maybe the procrastinators (like me) will flood your mailbox tomorrow.
Think about registries... I'm sure you remember stuff flying off literally DAYS before the shower! (If not... then darn my family: are you sure you didn't invite THEM to your party?)

I have been told its very common with daycare. Parents dont respond. It totally sucks b/c you never know how many people to plan on comming.

as a SAHM i found that most reply the week of and/or when they see you in person. out of a class of 12 i only had 2 i had to follow up with, but the rest told me right before or on the RSVP date. DD's close friends i found out soon after i sent out the invites, i also felt comfortable asking the moms flat out.
