am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

Chat Icon

our apartment is outside a municpal parking lot. for over an HOUR, a bunch (4-6) of 10 year olds have been literally SCREAMING beneath our apartment window. I'm amazed they haven't lost their voices at this point.

first of all, it's almost 10pm... and we're in the middle of town by bars and restaurants.... where the @#$@# are the parents??!

Second of all, they're grating on my nerves and are taking weeks off of my life, and mm off of my teeth. when will they finally shut up and go home?!

I seriously wonder how my patience will be when our baby comes.... I'm hoping my progeny will not irritate me as much as the very poorly behaved and older progeny of others.

Re: am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

I, personally, think you will be fine because you realized that there was an issue with children going unchecked at this hour of the night! We just saw a similar situation..a little girl, no older than 2, was standing on the corner with no one holding onto her and her parents were walking away! She didn't look like she was having a tantrum, but looked like she needed her hand held or something! I tell ya...you need a license to drive...you'll be a great mommy!

The stuff that bugs you about strangers children will not bother you with your own (in general I mean) I highly doubt you will let your child do what those kids were doingChat Icon

heheheheh.... OMG that would be golden.... but I'll refrain Chat Icon

I'm glad to hear that it isn't the same with your own kids...

(of course, our kid will be raised by us + some rather stern european grandparents.... He/she definitely will be in bed by 10pm, and not hanging out near bars Chat Icon )

Re: am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

All I know is that my mother never would have allowed me to be out past 10 unless I was at a sleepover. My a$$ would still be burning from a beating had she seen me out in the street/parking lot/whatever at that age.

I know it isn't PC to spank kids anymore but sometimes ya just.....Chat Icon A "time out" isnt gonna keep a kid from his friends. I hope these parents go nuts and take away the Wii - now THERE is authority at it's finest.

Am I going to be famous for my burning butt now?

I swear my mother never hit me (only my oldest sister). She instilled fear like no woman ever could so I never pulled this BS that kids today seem to get away with. I just KNEW better. I didn't mess with the bull so i didn't get the horns. But seriously, what parent would allow a 10 year old to run around after 10 pm? Sorry, that is not acceptable. I wouldnt leave a 10 year old alone in my home, much less unsupervised outside.

Re: am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

100% agreed!! I just think some parents now lack the authority/confidence? to raise their children with what is right and wrong...there is NO way when I was 10 I was out...I know it's scary to be a parent, but I think it's scarier to be a parent not preparing their child for the world...kwim?

The only time my father EVER raised his voice was when we cursed. Needless to say it hardly ever happened. You just didn't curse in the home of the man who fed and clothed you.

Re: am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

to answer the original question about wondering if you'll be a good parent: NO DOUBT IN MY MIND! if what those kids were doing bothers you, you know better parenting skills than the parents of the kids that were out.

my son is 13 and i have only raised my hand to him a VERY FEW times. but the fact that i did do it, has shown him not to "F" with me.

my contribution: my father had a WHITE LEATHER BELT (a 70's left-over) hanging on the hook on his bedroom door. if you were bad, he'd make you go get the belt. he's fold in in half and snap it. then he'd put it under your nose and tell you to SMELL IT. we'd already be crying at this point, we'd lean in to the belt and sniff it. HE NEVER USED IT ON US, just the fear that the belt was that close to you was enough.

Re: am I REALLY ready to become a mom?

We got the threat of the soap in the mouth, but I think the bottom line is this..you don't mess with the people who gave birth to you and take care of you..parents (again, not all) are not letting kids know this anymore..

i think you're going to be just fine. highly doubt you'd ever allow your kids to be out that late, or that they'd even behave in such a manner!

It sounds like you live with me. I keep telliing DH that I am going to find out where they live and how up at 6am when I have to leave for work and blast my car radio outside their bedroom window.
