Am I the only one that wants to puke......
when I see a ton of gorgeous homes in mint condition for sale for the same price or cheaper than what I paid for mine in October and mine needs a bulldozer. I think I need to block MLSLI.COM so that I can stop looking and making myself sick.

I know exactly how you feel...but its like I can't look away...they still send me the daily updates of houses (from my initial search) & I'm like OMG how much is that house???
I'm happy where we are but know if we waited we could have gotten it cheaper or another one w/ less work needing to be done.
DH keeps telling me how this way WE determine how we want the house, we don't just walk into what someone else wanted. (I know he's right, but still...)

I just looked (I'm not on LI tho) and there are defnitely houses we would have liked listed about 50 below what we spent...but...they are completely original. In my town, those houses are now priced better but the houses like mine are priced in line with what I paid.
Remember - you never know the other conditions (bad street, etc.!)

This is my opinion only. When your looking at pictures on the internet, they don't always appear the same in person. (Actually physically being in the home looking around) Example New Colonial Built, Half an Acre on Culdisac, Taxes 2,800. Pictures were gorgeous, I had to see for myself. Turns out this home was the first house on a 5 lane major highway turning into the culdisac, the home was a cottage before, they just built up and around (still had the 1940 pluming) the state bought some property to widen the highway so it was actually less than a quarter acre. When all was said and done Taxes 12,000. My point is you must see the homes in person. The homes you are looking at if they were that great with a great price, they would be sold and you would not being seeing them. Sorry I was so Long.

I hear you! Since we bought our house in June I've been watching the prices in our neighborhood drop and drop.  I figure that we'll probably be here for a while so the market will come back up again eventually.

There were plenty of houses we looked at that seemed fabulous on MLS, and then when we got there, we didn't like the block, didn't like the neighboring homes, didn't like the location, backyard, etc etc etc -
My favorite HUGE Dutch Colonials in Wantagh Woods are STILL going to be out of my price range .........I just keep telling myself that -

Oh, I hear you. I bought my house at the height of the market (2004) when you had to put a bid on the house the same day you saw it or it was gone! Now I can get a house for the same price that's twice the house!

I totally feel you..i try not to look anymore...but I do rationalize it as with all the work that has to be done at least it will be what I want and my taste.....but its so hard not to look...

Tell me about it! We are selling our house for a loss right now but we are ready to move on to our final house that we plan to live in. In the end we know we are getting less but paying alot less for our new house than we would have if we sold a year ago. Plus the loss will help us at tax time!

I don't look because I know it would bother me but then again I agree that alot of times the homes that looked the nicest on MLS were not nice once you saw them in person.

I know how you feel. I can't look either! I feel we bought a house we could afford at the time and it needed work...so we thought it was a deal.
Lets just say.....we are working every minute to make it better and I don't even have heat on one side of my house. Someone please tell its all going to be better when we finish.

Oh mi God! I feel the say way. But it is too late now. I try to think the best and say to myself, well at least if i was renting I would be paying into nothing and at least this way i might make money if I sold (much later, not in this market)

pictures don't tell the complete story.
I was shocked when the house across the street from me lowered their asking price to $50K below what I had paid. The pictures looked nice and a pretty modern house. Well I went to an open house and was floored - the entire house was practically original from 1965 - they just took pictures of the best things they could.

As you know I am selling our home For Sale By Owner. I want to make sure I am well aware of my competition, so I went to some Open Houses similar to our home. Oh My Goodness, they were half the size of my home and certainly not in the same condition as ours and not offering half the amenities of ours but yet priced the same and higher. I asked "Do you have Comps to support this price ? " Yes, was the answer. Don't you think having a larger, more amenities, better condition home, You would expect to get a few dollars more ?
