Am I wrong?
I just got into a tiff with my mom  Long story short, I live in Philly and so does my brother, my mom lives in NY. We have cousins who are older (in their 70's) who are coming to visit in early October from Israel. I'm due Sept. 23, and my MIL is flying in from Israel and staying with us from Sept. 21-Oct. 18 and staying in the only guest bedroom that we have, which is right next to the nursery.
SO, my mom calls me tonight and tells me that when my cousins come in from Israel, she wants to drive them down to Philadelphia, drop them off at my house and have them stay with us for the weekend. I told her, ummm, mom, you realize I'm going to have 2 week old baby, AND my MIL is staying in the only guest bedroom during that time, so it just doesn't make sense. Why don't you have them stay with Russell (my brother).
She got all pissy with me! She was really "hoping" they could stay with us because our house is nicer and more accomodating, and my brother has these two hugemongo dogs that intimdate everyone. But, HELLO, I'm going to be post-partum, walking around in diapers, trying to nurse a 2 week old... I don't want guests in my house!! Am I wrong???

100% you're right! Don't give in! It's going to be such a hard time with an infant in the beginning! How could she even suggest that? They should stay with your brother or at a hotel!

You are NOT wrong. In fact If I were her, your house would be the last place I would recommened due to your situation. Tell her you will not be up to entertaining them.

Whew! Ok, so I'm not being as unreasonable as she insinuated! She's nuts! I think she has totally forgotten what it's like post-partum for the first few weeks. She kept saying, well, your brother will entertain them for the weekend, they'll just stay at your house. Yeah, but we'll have a baby crying every 3 hours, our MIL in the guest bedroom, and the last thing I'll need 2 weeks after giving birth is to tiptoe around my house in fear of waking up my guests, and making sure the house is clean and feeding them for the weekend. No thank you!

You are 100% right. I saw what my sister went through with her baby and her baby was so easy. But still- she was uncomfortable and recovering from the birth and trying to adjust to all the new mom stuff. Who wants an extra 2 pairs of eyes watching you and judging you. Especially a couple in their 70's. Where will the sleep? Its not like they can sleep on an aeromattress like your friends can. Your mom is the one being unreasonable. Not you.

I don't think that is wrong of you at all!!! Your MIL takes priority over the cousins kind of. Where does your mom expect them to stay? Besides, the crying baby might keep them up at night!!

Agreed. You will have your hands full (literally) to begin with taking are of your baby and healing. This is important time to bound with your baby and take care of yourself - i would feel the same as you in this situation

no way- I know when I came home I didnt want anyone around except my Dh- I also had the baby blues around that time I couldnt imagine having to entertain guests- I was literally walking around crying with my boobs hanging out- it was a sight but its basically what happens in the beggining.
