Amazon Fire Stick
I think that's the name of it. The thing you plug into the TV to stream shows & movies.
I am not a very tech friendly person, so I was wondering how does this thing work. I see it's like a USB - do I just plug it in my TV and go? Does my TV need to be a smart TV with WiFi?
Thanks.

Amazon Fire Stick
Just plug into a USB in your TV and plug in to electric outlet and you are set. I love mine!! It is easy to move from room to room. I stream Amazon prime, Netflix, HBO, SHO and others on it!

Some channels have streaming channels, but you usually still need a cable account to access them. Though you can "borrow" the account info from family members and log in with their username and password to stream. The Amazon fire stick is exactly like the Roku or Apple TV.
ETA: And of course you'll always still need an internet connection/wi-fi.

Ugh, I know! I did cancel cable for a few years and it was fine- we watched TV through Hulu/Netflix/Amazon and stole HBO from my parents but it's tough. And there's NO easy way to stream any sports which was a big downside.

Yes and no. Most new theatrical releases take a few weeks to show up in good quality. But, you definitely get them sooner.
I love being able to choose any movie i want to watch, newish or old.

True. Technically the "new" releases aren't that great yet so you have to wait a bit, but it's great to see before it's on video.

No, the unlocked has movies from the theater. At least that is how mine is. I could never cancel cable because I wouldn't get Bravo

I really should cancel or downgrade. We barely watch anything that isn't G rated. I even have to turn off or mute the news if one of my DD's is awake.

The stick itself is like $40 or less I believe on Amazon. Then to get it unlocked which will allow you to watch movies that are new releases (usually recorded by someone in the theater, etc.), it will probably cost you another $50. I know someone that unlocks them so mine was free.

No, you don't need a smart TV, just one with a usb port somewhere. You do need a wireless router though because it connects to wifi.
