Amber/Gary's Daughter Ward of state (teen mom)

This is so unfortunate! I feel so badly for this little girl. I just read this on Perez Hilton:

Sources close to Teen Mom star Amber Portwood have revealed that she and baby daddy Gary Shirley appeared in an Indiana court room yesterday afternoon for an emergency child placement hearing regarding their daughter, Leah, and the two-year-old has now been deemed a ward of the state!

The Department of Child Services will now be monitoring Portwood for six months, until she can once again file for custody, as well as assessing Leah's living situation will Shirley.

So unfortunate for that poor child.

Again, we hope that this terrible situation will help de-glamorize the reality show a bit for its younger viewers. These two clearly aren't emotionally mature enough to handle the responsibility of being a parent.

A child can be deemed a "ward of the state" or in DSS custody and still live with one or both of her parents. It is not unfortunate for the child at all. It is for her benefit to make sure she is being raised in a safe and secure environment. It does not mean she has to leave the home and go into foster care. It simply means that the families are being closely supervised. "The state (via the family court) stands in loco parentis to the child. Generally this entails assuming all lawful authority to make medical and legal decisions on the child's behalf." source

She is still living with Gary but the Dept of Child Services is monitoring her....she is such a cute little girl. Hope it all works out for them
