Amber was exposed to Coxsakie...
Amber was exposed to Coxsakie this weekend and now I'm afraid of what will happen. Has anyone's child had this?

Luckily that is the one thing so far that Caiden hasn't contracted from daycare. He was exposed to it there, but he never got it. He got everything else, even RSV.
Hopefully she won't get it! Good luck!

Re: Amber was exposed to Coxsakie...
I actually have gotten coxsaki twice this year...
The thing with it is you dont even know you have it until you break out in the blisters...and then you are no longer contagious...
Sometimes the blisters are on your hands, or feet, or throat, sometimes all three...
Working with kids... I see it ALOT! As long as shes eating and dosent have a fever she should be fine!

I hope she doesn't get it. How badly was she exposed to it?

Re: Amber was exposed to Coxsakie...
Mu daughter had it, it is definitely no fun, lot of cold drinks, and tylenol, I think the incbation period can be anywhere from 5-7 days. I hope she doesn't get it, but if she does, it is very common and nothing that a few days of rest can't cure.

The little girl who has it was all over her and all over her things. I'm glad the mother told me but now I'm worried. I told Bob to go home and Lysol out the entire place!

I saw on the net that they get blisters and stuff. Do they have other symptoms besides a fever? Any vomiting and such?

My daughter was just really irritable with a fever and we couldn't figure out what was wring, I thogth for sure an ear infection, but as soon as the doctor looked down her throat sh esaw all the blisters. Watch the roof of her mouth, back of her tongue and hands.

I think it's like a herpes zoster.

Re: Amber was exposed to Coxsakie...
My son had it last year.. Thank god it wasnt a severe case.. he was just extremely cranky.. his throat was all sore and he had some bumps, much like a strep throat, at the back of his throat-- It was crazy.. Just cuddle.. and give plenty of fluids... Good Luck!

This is not true coxsackie is not treated with antibiotics because it is a virus. It just has to run it's course and as long as their are open blisters it is contagious. It has an incubation period of 2-10 days, so if you make it past 10 days Amber should be in the clear. if she does get it you can give her tylenol for pain relief and make sure she drinks plenty of liquids

She had loose bowels over the weekend but not much else. Is that a symptom?

It can be but not a big symptom. Big ones would be a fever and if she wasn't eating or drinking much. If you are worried the Ped. can tell you right away
