Ambien takers...
I have terrible sleeping problems...have for awhile and my doc prescribed Ambien. LIFESAVER! I only needed a half of a 10 mg pill and it was just enough to overcome the 2 am laundry list of life mind-racing that kept me up.
Time for my refill and I get the new generic version...I know it's supposed to be the "same" but is it...I find myself up at 2 am and am taking the whole pill now
anyone else taking this new generic?

I take valium- and the generic sucks
generics are not the same- I don't care what anyone says
Jake gets it- and he always gets generic even though I tell him I hate it!

Re: Ambien takers...
I took ambien a few times last year and did not have good results. I couldn't sleep AT ALL the night following the night that I took it.
I've recently taken lunesta a few times and it's been SO much better. I don't feel groggy like I used to when I took the ambien, and I'm able to sleep fine the following night (I only take it as needed).
I def. reccomend lunesta over ambien.

Re: Ambien takers...
Like Deb mentioned, they can be addictive and you do build up a tolerance. So if 1/2 isnt working anymore it could be because its generic, but it also could be because you have become tolerant to the lower dose.

Re: Ambien takers...
Im no help, Ambien didnt work for me. I was up at 2 am starring at the walls. DH and I both took them one night and there we were watching TV @ 2am. I personally think they dont work. I had better luck with Advil PM. Those babies made me sleep.

Re: Ambien takers...
I take the genric form of Klonopin. And it works really well for sleep issues that I have and anxiety ( its in the same family as xanax and valium.) I only take half of a .5 mg pill when needed. It is addictive only if you take alot.

I like valium- I don't find it addictive- I only take it when needed- and I wake up feeling refreshed- it just relaxes you enough to let you fall asleep
just don't get the generic!

Re: Ambien takers...
ANY sleeping pill can be addictive. I took one way before the days of Ambien, but I eventually stopped. I took Melatonin for awhile and that helped somewhat. Now I use tylenol PM if I can't sleep. it's non habot-forming and it helsp my allergies..and it totally knocks me out.
But what i really meant to get at was that I have spoken to several people for whom Ambien didn't work or stopped working and they felt Lunesta was 1000X better. They said it really just shut off that late night chatter and made them calm.
Also, if the generic doens't work for you, try tgo get your doc to write it DAW, and if the ins co won't approve it, you can fight it if the doctor says you need the brand name. The generics say tey are the same medicine but they are actually held to a much lower standard by the FDA

This is not exactly true. Generic companies have to provide data to the FDA that shows how they act. In NY, they have to be rated to work exactly the same as the brand in order to be able to be substituted. They can not work better or worse. I think alot of people see that they are getting a generic and automatically assume that it will not work as well, so that is their mindset, so they don't allow it to work as well.
That being said, I take the generic Ambien and it works fine for me. I however only take it occasionally (maybe once a week or so). Sleeping pills really work better this way so you don't build a tolerance to them.
