DD was given one when she was 6. I asked my sister to hold off passing down my niece's doll until she was older. Mainly because my MIL gave her a doll that was collectible & she drew tears in permanent marker on it.

My DD got one for her first Christmas. It's still in the box. I'm not sure when I should let her play with it.

DD got the bitty baby at age 3.5 and still plays with it now (she's almost 5). I will probably hold off on the actual AG doll for another year or so.

We started with a bitty twins at around 2 which she plays with ALL the time. Then she got the bitty baby, again plays with that one all the time, and we recently got another bitty twin. My dd loves dolls though. She has no interest in the older girls though. The store is amazing and so much fun

Re: American doll - spin-off

SD is 8 and has expressed a lot of interest in one, but she does not take good care of things she supposedly 'cares' about, so instead we got her a Les Cheries by Corolle doll...basically a smaller, cheaper version (was like $45) and told her if she could take good care of her then we'd see about an American Girl doll for next Christmas.

So far she is doing a good job actually taking care of her...the doll has brushable and styleable hair and she brushes it nearly every day...doll is still looking very good.

I definitely recommend the Les Cheries dolls, they are very cute and have a lot of different outfits which go for ~$30/each...much better than the AG clothes!

Re: American doll - spin-off

We bought dd one 2 weeks ago when we were in the city. She is 4.5.

The doll stays in my room, and she earns time with it. She understands that it is a "special" doll.

My DD got one for her first birthday but we have not given it to her yet.

I can say from what I have seen they are huge with the 1st-3rd grade crowd. The girls seem to have a competition going of who has the most dolls and accessories.

We are taking my girls (7 & 5) to American Girl Doll for their birthday's next month. They can't wait.

I didn't bring up the doll until they mentioned it.

I just want to say that I am so glad my DD is not into AG dolls. She's just not a doll kid. My pocket book is grateful!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
