Amtrak
Anyone taken Amtrak for a trip?
I need to head to Baltimore over Memorial Day weekend to babysit for my niece and nephews and Southwest is all booked up . Amtrak has some decent rates.
I am thinking driving down that weekend would probably be horrible.
Thanks!!

Re: Amtrak
Thanks ladies!
Was it okay?? I am thinking it has to be less stressful that sitting in traffic - but it's a lot more time than a flight would take.

Re: Amtrak
I took it to Buffalo to visit friends. It was ok except we were caught in a snowstorm with drunken football fans.
It probably would be relaxing but I'd get an upgraded ticket.

Re: Amtrak
I took Amtrak to Baltimore several times for business trips and it was great. I mainly took the Acela, but have taken regular trains too. The ride is relaxing and once you get to Baltimore there are taxis right outside for you. And what a difference it is between crazy busy NY Penn Station and the almost empty Baltimore Station.

Re: Amtrak
I have taken it to DC a couple of times --- it's not bad at all. It's more comfortable then driving since you can walk around, the seats are fine, they have snack cars & such.

Re: Amtrak
Train ride is easy.. The drive is a little bit "hard"...I am used to driving to Boston...the drive seems easy compared to driving down south...
Seems more traffic and tolls

Re: Amtrak
I took Amtrak to Rome a few years back. Rome NY. The ride there wasnt as bad as the ride back. They had to stop, to replace the engine, and to fuel up. That was an added 45 minutes to 1 hours wait, plus the food ran out on the train....Thanks to the people sitting behind me lol.....
Getting the train is easy - Its right there in Penn Station....Some of the trains rides are a little bumpy. All in all it is better than driving.
When I was a kid we took the Auto train to Florida...Now that was fun

Re: Amtrak
If you are on a tight schedule know that sometimes they can run quite late. If thre is aproblem on the track many times you can't just go around it.
