Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

DD is 8 months.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
Nope, only used it for about 2 weeks.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?
I don't think I HAD to rock her to sleep but since I have always BFed her to sleep I would just lay her on me when she was done and that became our routine until recently when she decided she doesn't want to be rocked all the time.

3) At what age did they STTN ?
Around 2 months.

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? half & half. If he is cranky and needs calming he takes it but then once he's ok spits it out. He doesn't use it when he falls asleep at night, the few times I tried he closes his lips tight lol The times he does take it at night, it's out within minutes.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? Yes, I rock him but only for maybe 5-10 minutes. He would probably be fine if I didn't rock him, I just like to

3) At what age did they SSTN ? around 2 months

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

-He did, for the first 2.5 months. He had no use for it by 3 months.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

-When he was a newborn I held him a lot, rocking, walking, snuggling (sometimes more for me than for him Chat Icon). Now (8mos old), none of that.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

- 5 mos straight through with no bottles.

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
DS1 - No
DS2 - Yes
DD - No

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?
DS1 - Yes
DS2 - Not really, would do it sometimes just because I wanted to
DD - Never

3) At what age did they SSTN ?
DS1 - 8 weeks
DS2 - 5 weeks
DD - 5 weeks

I don't think it had anything to do with pacifier use in our case. DS1 and DD both rejected them with a passion. And DS1 might have had to be rocked, etc. because we didn't know what we were doing as much as we do now. But DD actually seemed to prefer settling herself down to sleep on her own rather than us rocking her.

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

DS took a pacifier until he was 5 months old. At around 4 months old, he started waking up in the middle of the night, up to six times a night, crying because the paci had fallen out. We took it away at 5 months of age and CIO'd the same night.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

No, I never did - the swaddle and the pacifier were all he needed until we did CIO.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

He was sleeping 7pm to 5am around 12 weeks old, and at 6 months old he started sleeping 7pm to 7am.

Chat Icon Around 12 weeks

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? - Yes - just to sleep. We leave it in his crib - that's the only time he gets it.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? - Nope - we don't have to do anything to get him to sleep. We give him his bedtime bottle and into the crib he goes. He's asleep within 2-3 minutes. If he cries during the night, it's because the paci fell out. We go back in and put it back in if he can't find it on his own and he's righ tback to sleep.

3) At what age did they SSTN ? He started REALLY STTN around 5.5 months old... he would wake before then just to eat.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
Yes - ugh. As far as sleep goes, only for a little while then she doesnt care about it. Its really just a soother. So maybe 10mins?

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? No, she hates it. We used to rock her but around 8mo she got really irrated if we hold her and she's tired. Chat Icon She likes to toss and turn so holding her is not an option.

3) At what age did they SSTN
11mo or so I guess. She still wakes up now and then but that's only if I dont let her have a nap.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?
I rocked him until 3+ months and then started doing it for less and less time until I was able to put him down awake

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
No hated it from day 1

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?
I rocked DS to sleep from day 1 until 16 months old. then he got too big and wasnt comfy being rocked anymore. Honestly I miss it.

I think it was more ME who started that habit and enjoyed it so I never tried not to rock him

3) At what age did they SSTN ?
7 weeks DS STTN. From his frist day he slept 5-6 hours at a clip. by 7 weeks we were at 8-9 hours. We regressed at 9 months when he learned to crawl, stand then walk in about 5 week period and did CIO at that piont

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

# 1 took a pacifier, #'s 2 and 3 did not.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

# 1 was rocked to sleep. #'s 2 and 3 were not rocked, at least not every night, and no, none of them "needed" it. I enjoyed it. They were all swaddled up tight and put into their cribs drowsy, but still awake right after a feeding.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

# 1 - around 8 weeks
# 2 - around 10 weeks
# 3 - 5 weeks

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
-Not as a young baby, though he started sucking on his lovey when we switched to bottles, around 14 months. But before that, nothing.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?
Not really. He was never into the rocking. We put him down, put on his white noise machine, maybe rubbed his back, and said good night told him we loved him. That was it.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?
Mostly around 4.5 months with some spurts of sleep problems. Never lasted long though, 2 weeks tops.

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? Six months old and the only time he took a binky was in the hospital. The doctor suggested I bring one to appointments but he honestly doesnt know what to do with them and chokes if you give him one.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? Nope. And DS never co-slept. He was in his crib (when if FINALLY arrived) at 2 weekns old.

3) At what age did they SSTN ? The day we switched his formula on his 2 month visit to ped he slept through the night (8:30-7:00) and has been doing so every night since.

I think the key for us was the little light/sound machine that came with his play mat. I put that on his crib from the beginning and he learned how to turn it on and put himself back to sleep.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

Chat Icon 1: No...if it didn't have milk in it he wanted nothing to do with it
Chat Icon 2: takes one during the day to sooth (swing & carseat) but not for bedtime or naps.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

Chat Icon 1: Yes, we rocked him until about 13-14 months when we did CIO (took the last bottle away from him at the same time so it became a routine of stories and then into the crib at night). When we rocked him it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or so.
Chat Icon 2: Yes, we currently rock and it takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. We'll try to do the same weening we did with DS1.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

Chat Icon 1: By 9 months he was STTN (but prior it was only 1 wake up to eat...and he drained the bottle).
Chat Icon 2: to new to know
