ANGRY ANGRY ANGRY!!!!(long and cranky vent about doctors)
Ok so I have been prescribed Singulair for my allergies for AGES. It was prescribed to replace the grueling regimen of allergy shots that I started a very long time ago as an adult - that and every RX and over the counter medication known to man.
Some of those over the counters had been RX meds and Im guessing their potency, was enough to render them good for over the counter use - but not for me. I simply cannot take over the counter meds and most Rx drugs for my severe allergies.
I need a leukotriene blocker.
Well my new insurance doesnt cover Singulair and requires prior authorization from my doctor. I asked my doctor and faxed forms twice to them to have it done. Guess what. I was denied. The insurance company said that I hadnt tried enough over the counter and Rx antihistamines. WHAT?????
Essentially, my doctor was too lazy to look far enough back into his records to see all he prescribed (including the allergist's referral) for me. He even administered the shots himself when a previous plan had changed. So now I cannot breathe and havent been able to do so easily for almost 2 weeks since I took my last pill.
I am THIS close to getting a new doctor. I am due to see him on Saturday for a check up. He will get an earful!

he probably doesnt even do this paperwork...get on the phone tomorrow! ask for the office manager or records clerk and demand they rectify the situation.

I would just pay for it this month-- if it's not too much $$ and get it resolved before it comes time to get your refill.

I'm so sorry. They absolutely s*ck. I understand. OTC does nothing for me. I need zyrtec AND singulair AND Astelin.
I hope they straighten it out soon!

It's a combo of doctors and insurance companies. been there. Sorry you have to deal with this crap!

I agree with this, I used to work for a doctor's office and the clerks used to do all the forms and stuff including the physicals, he probably doesnt even know about this. Mention it when you go there and maybe he can do something to get it done for you.
The part that kills me is that if you are on medicaid and dont pay a penny or if you are in this country illegally you would get whatever you need for free and wouldnt even have to be going through this!!

The very same happened to me last year with Allegra, which I have been on for years. My insurance is supposed to be so good, but it $ucks. I hate to think what it's going to be like in another few years.

My doctor is Jewish and will more than likely not be in his office tomorrow. I had a lot of sympathy from the pharmacy representative on the phone and they will try to encourage the doctor and/or his office to appeal this. Either the office people have to get on the phone or the doctor has to fill out the paper work. Here I am thinking it takes close to 45 minutes to have the office staff on the phone with the insurance's pharmacy representative or maybe 20 minutes with a form to fill out. So in my attempts to make things EASIER, I get screwed. Name the drug, I have been on it. It is very scary not to be able to breathe.
