Angry, mad, nervous and excited.....
I have been at my job for 20 yrs. I run a dr's office. My boss has become a real jerk. I am not allowed to work one minute over 16 hrs. So if I work over the 16 hrs he "owes" it to me, but when I go to take it I get nasty comments. This is illegal. I also do the job of at least 5 people, you know how you go to a dr's office and they have departments- well I do everyhting here . Anyway, fast forward to last week. My boss is semi retired. I have not had a raise in at least 5-8 yrs, and he "claims" he has no extra money, but went out and bought a new car. ( A high end one) This is none of my business but made me angry.... anyway, I have a Masters degree and finally decided I am going to use it, I went up to the school I got my degree from and they are helping me find a job in what I went to school for. My coworker who works 1 nite a month and one saturday a month has told me that he has said some nasty comments about me behind my back- about me working over the 16 hrs, I might get a hyperglycemia attack- which I do not have, I just will not work a minute over the 16 hrs, so I make sure I leave at the 16 hr mark, , and some other horrible things. I am just beyond annoyed, and it takes alot to get me to this point. I cannot stand to go into work at all , and I gringe when the phone rings for fear it is my boss and also just the sight of his face makes me sick. I am going to be leaving this job, asap, and all of a sudden he keeps cornering me to see if I am going to leave b/c he sees i have 100% confidence in myself, and he is worried about himself b/c get this, he is selling the practice and he "promised" the new doctor I would stay on, but will not let me talk to the new dr, so not fair, and also I think it is illegal to promise me in a sale!  I feel like a slave and I am just beyond annoyed, so how would you handle this situation, besides that I am going to leave this job? I am excited and nervous about my new adventure. You do your job until you find another one. You keep your mouth shut about your plans. You work the 16H.
You just do what you have to do.

Agree w/ this 100%. You have suffered long enough, and with a Masters degree you should NOT. Have. To. Put. Up. With Your Boss' Attitude!! UGH!
Good luck and hope you can leave for really greener pastures!! Sounds like your boss is angry that he is losing a stellar employee!
