annoying comment
I am very close with all of my nieces and nephews. So close, that I have no problem reprimanding them and they do listen to me. I see them so much I am not the aunt who makes you cookies, I am the aunt you see 2/3x a week and I will check if you did your HW.
So, DH's 8yo niece was SO good at this dinner party last night but then it was like she flipped a switch and had a brat attack. I just told her: "You were being SO good and now what happened - it is almost time to go home so try to leave on a good note."
Nothing crazy. And my MIL is like "OH don't spit in the air, you dont even know what that little one in your belly is going to put you through. . . "
It was sooooooooo annoying. First of all, her granddaughters all have behavioral issues, WAY beyond the norm for their age. But that wasnt even the issue - I didn't say "You are a brat and my kid won't be" LOL there was NO need for that comment!
Ugh I can't get it out of my head LOL

Re: annoying comment
so ridiculous.
Once people know that you are having a baby they interpret everything you do and of course have to comment, yet it is not unlike the things you usually did.
the same happens when you are getting married, buying a home.. ect..

Re: annoying comment
Ew to your MIL. I reprimand my nephew and my sister reprimands my DD, I am the type who feels the whole family should have a hand in her upbringing because that's how I was raised, and I respected everyone in my family for it. That being said, I've noticed that my mother, now that she's a grandmother, will defend my daughter till the cows come home, even if she's being a total brat. It's a grandmother thing. But I would have mentally b1tch slapped her if I were you.

Re: annoying comment
I agree. Me and DH live with my MIL, and my one SIL is always over with her kids. Courtney is 4 1/2 and Brendan is 1. DH and I are expecting a DS in 9 weeks, and anytime my nephew does something he shouldnt and I make a face or noone tells him no I get annoyed. All they have to say is "Oh you just wait, you don't know what your in for". It annoys me sooooooo much, my SIL does not clean up after her kids when they are over so my MIL is constantly following them around while the princess just does nothing. Gotta love it. Don't assume my child will be anyway compareable to yours...sorry. Thanks for letting me vent though...

Re: annoying comment
When you're a first time mom-to-be, everyone gives you that Just you wait...thing. My SIL was 3 HOURS late to Christmas and when I called her on it, I got the wait til you have kids thing too. It's all you can do not to say Well I'll be a better parent so MY situation will be different! The best thing you can do is have a very well-behaved child while the other monsters are running around driving everyone else crazy. Ah sweet revenge.

bwahahahahaha!
honestly, DH and I were NOT going to have children b/c these kids are SO bad. I mean cursing/talking back starting in pre-K, no structure and NO fear. . . so at THAT point my ILs kept telling us "oh dont worry, you will be different parents and your kids will be so different - please dont let their actions affect your decisions"
Fine, bc of other circumstances we decide to start a family and now all of a sudden we are doomed to bratty kids as well?! Make up your minds people!!!!

I can totally see my mom doing that too, oh boy! I told her I skipped breakfast the other day and she told me "I can't wait until the baby is out of your belly so i can feed him properly!"

They were just trying to trick you into having kids. Now that you're locked in, the truth comes out!

Re: annoying comment
Ignore her. I do the same with my nieces and nephews as well as my brother and sisters who are a lot younger. I am a big believer in a community raising a child (I guess it is my family court experience and all of the courses I took, but I see it works)-as long as you are not raising your hands, there is nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious. It doesn't mean that you or I feel that our DCs will be little angels all of the time, because they won't.
In fact, my SIL actually supported the fact that I reprimanded my niece and nephew in the car last week as they were fighting and almost got us killed!
