Another Athlete Guilty of Animal Abuse

Giants LB Pierce pleads guilty to animal neglect

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- A member of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants has pleaded guilty to neglecting his pet pit bulls.

Middle linebacker Antonio Pierce appeared in municipal court in Monroe Township on Thursday and agreed to pay a $1,300 fine.

Authorities say one of the dogs was severely underweight and suffering from a respiratory illness. They also say Pierce and his girlfriend let the dogs run loose and failed to get them rabies shots.

Jocelyn Maldanado also pleaded guilty and was fined $1,300.

A lawyer for the couple says the dogs were given away as part of the plea agreement.

The dogs were discovered running around a neighbor's yard in late January, the week before the Giants upset New England to win the Super Bowl.

I am so disgusted. How can you starve your animal. You have to be a psycopath. It goes against human nature. We are nurturers. I feel like he should have been on animal cops like those other losers. I cant tell you how sick I am especially since my husband and I are HUGE Giants fans. I know this doesn't have any bearing on the team but this really got to me. I hope they kick him off the team.

They just don't care. To these "people" (and I use that term loosely) they're "just" dogs. They're disposable. They don't look at these dogs and see a living creature.

I heard about this back in January on ESPN.

The ONLY thing I will say and I'm NOT in ANYWAY defending him, but apparently the dogs were bought for his girlfriend who was supposed to take care of them.

She was technically the one who neglected them as she was the one with them day to day which is why she was fined too. I was glad to see that, b/c she took an active role in not caring for the poor dogs.

I'm glad they had to give them up, now at least those dogs stand a chance of finding a new LOVING home.

Re: Another Athlete Guilty of Animal Abuse

He is just as guilty, he had knowledge the dogs were neglected. He probably pled guilty as a result of plea deal for no jail time, doubt it was because he was remorseful, he was simply caught.

Oh I completely agree. The bottom line is they were his dogs, he paid for them, they were in his name. I'm just glad his crack wh0re GF was fined too.

I think she was just as guilty.

I cant believe I missed this... I was so active watching ESPN during the Super Bowl... I pray those dogs have a wonderful new warm loving home. They must need alot of rehabilitation... Did anyone hear what ever happened to them?
